Man asked woman to leash her dog in a public park -- she called the police on him

watched Just Mercy today. A story about a black man who was on death row because he was wrongly accused of killing a white woman.

He is a Harvard educated man in his late 50s. She is well educated and in her early 40s. All she had to do was put the leash on and walk away. Instead she pretended to be in distress. Without the video he could have been arrested or shot. I've witnessed a similar situation. The white woman called the police, started crying and acting hysterical because my brother approached her when she almost hit his kids with her car in a parking lot. How dare a black man correct a white woman?!
No excuses for this woman. She attempted to use his race to hurt him and she lied to try to make it happen. I hope she gets what she deserves and learns from her actions.

You are only looking from that video. He didn't post the interaction prior to that video so what really happened?

She’s Canadian! Didn’t expect that.

By way of example, let me share my teenage son's experience yesterday - he was verbally harassed leaving a park in our neighborhood by some older white men. My husband, who is not white, witnessed this, it seemed totally unprovoked, and he confronted the men. It ended without violence or police, but even the confrontation was shocker since my husband and son are both about the most conflict-averse people I've ever met.

We later learned from my son's friend that other kids they knew had been in an argument with the older men over some recreational equipment at the park. My son spent a few minutes sitting with his friends and they were laughing about the argument. They were sarcastic and probably even mocking. Should the white men have harassed my son when he was leaving the park? No, of course not - he hadn't even had any contact with them. But he wasn't entirely blameless either.

Everyone is a little nuts these days. I think that Central Park woman was wrong and what she did was dangerous. But without seeing what preceded the snippet, I'm hesitant to call for her firing and imprisonment (as many, many people on Twitter already have done.)

She pretended to be assaulted. She basically called a firing squad on this man.

Also...I think that you should quit with your fake story. Your DH and son are not non-White.

PP here: it's an absolutely true story. Why would I bother writing this otherwise?

I don't condone what the Central Park woman did. I'm just pointing out that the video may not tell the whole story.

I have no idea why you shared this story, even if it’s true. The only similar thing is that your story took place in a park. Your son may have been a jerk to some stranger, but no one called the police and lied about being attacked by a black man. Do you not see the difference? Seriously?

We don't know what happened in terms of the interactions before he recorded it. Clearly he provoked her in some way to get the reaction and she was in a panic because of what he said prior.

I wouldn't classify her reaction as panicked.

I'd classify her as being vindictive and superior.

She thought she'd get a man arrested for calling her out on illegal activity. She thought wrong.

"The Ramble is the single most popular wooded area of the park for birding, particularly where the stream nicknamed "The Gill" flows. In the spring, the treetops are lush with migrating warblers."

What utter hubris of that woman to call the police on the bird watcher when she was doing something illegal! She needs to be cited for having her dog off leash at a minimum.

What does Harvard have to do with it?

Because if he was homeless or on probation you would have said he deserved to be cited by the police for doing...nothing. And correcting her for illegally running her dog off-leash.

Ohhh she's in hot water now. I'm guessing her work sponsors her visa?

Time to go back where you came from Missy.

Me?? Heck no, I'm an ultra liberal who read your post as if somehow he's more valuable than Ahmaud Arbery.

All she had to do was leash the damned dog.

Asked if her brother was doing OK, Melody Cooper wrote on Twitter, “He’s fine, thankfully. No I told him to be careful! As soon as she leashed the dog, he said thank you stopped filming and went about his business. This kind of entitlement dog walking happens weekly in the Ramble.”

People need to leash their dogs. My husband got his hand bit off by a pit bull in a public park in our neighborhood.

The you here was impersonal and I didn't originally post the Harvard note. Its important to note however that being of a socioeconomic class didn't protect this man from racism from a woman who is an immigrant.

If you look at his account of the incident on CNN, he was deliberately bating her and clearly does this a lot as he carries dog treats. He was trying to take her dog from her via bribing it with treats. He purposely provoked her and only recorded part of it but by his account he was as inappropriate as she was. Both were in the wrong but he clearly set it up.

*rolls eyes*

She was illegally running her dog off-leash in a public park.

He asked her multiple times to leash her dog with the leash she had IN HAND.

She refused. He called the dog over. Only then was she willing to leash her dog.

She got mad that he was smarter than her and tried to call the police on him for her illegal actions.

She deserves everything that's come to her.

Who carries dog treats and bribes dogs to come to him especially if he is scared of dogs or feels threatened by the dog. The entire situation makes no sense. But, how would you feel if someone was trying to get your dog by offering treats?

Silly. Since its my fault my dog is off-leash. And nowhere does he say he's scared or threatened by a dog. He's a bird watcher. Off-leash dogs scare away wildlife.

Ok, but mind your own business. He didn't need to tell her to put the dog on a leash as she and the dog were not bothering anyone. It is inappropriate to call a dog over that does not belong to you and bribe it with treats. If he felt threatened he can call the police to speak to her. Or, he asked, she refused, so he could call the police to have them enforce it rather than make a scene and record it. He had lots of options. But, trying to take a dog is not ok.

He asked, she declined so he continued to harass her vs. calling the police and having them enforce it. There were lots of other options than trying to take her dog. Who on earth tries to take someone else's dog? That is not acceptable at all. Most women would feel threatened by a man taking their dog.
