Almost no one took 3 in MS...since all 6th graders only took 1a. Only if you moved from another area, maybe. I knew kids that went to RM for math and there were a couple of language kids (2?) on the bus too. |
Which will mean culture and music. What every Imagineering tech kid wants.

What were the JW options last year. My daughter's friends keep saying there was
Art rotation (4 classes, 1 each quarter) Tech rotation (4 classes, 1 each quarter) Band (full year) Orchestra (full year) Chorus (full year) I mean WTF would they remove an entire rotation with more kids coming in this year than last. Instead they offer a semester of filmmaking (how random) and then put 5 options in a 4 cycle rotation and not let the kids pick. And the options are nothing like each other. It just makes no sense. Did anyone get an answer why they removed the tech rotation for incoming 6th graders? |
| Why no tech rotation now? |
|
There is no tech rotation. Any technology elective for 6th grade is part of the “arts rotation”. There is no arts rotation for 7th grade since there are no 1 quarter electives next year in 7th grade.

| What happened to all the film options? My kids loved that all 3 years. |
Imagineering tech is the new film course. This way the film course counts as a tech elective for state requirements. |
But the current 6th grade class had a choice in rotations. Tech or art? Why did they combine them and not let kids choose. Why is JW changing everything if there is no tech requirement - which is what they keep trying to tell everyone. |
Did they really have a choice between a tech and art rotation? My current 6th grader is taking a mix of tech and art classes at JW this year. I don't remember having her decide to do a tech rotation or arts rotation last year. |
But there is no actual state requirement for middle school correct? |
Correct Correct |
This. No County requirement. Not State requirement. MCPS is just pushing for it as a way to improve the schools’ ‘ratings’. |
Yes, there were two quarter rotations to choose and no semester courses. |
But for the other quarters, kids were still assigned to arts classes. It’s not like a kid would only get tech classes or arts classes. My dd put tech classes as her two top choices but she still did general music last quarter and will be doing studio art next quarter. |
Ugh, last year you picked which rotation and the classes you wanted in those rotations. There are no choices this year. None. No choice rotations and no choices in the one and only rotation. You want robotics or coding? Great. You will end up with Culture and Music and be happy. |
