Did anyone else go to the train wreck meeting at JWMS last night?

But the current 6th grade class had a choice in rotations. Tech or art? Why did they combine them and not let kids choose.

Why is JW changing everything if there is no tech requirement - which is what they keep trying to tell everyone.

Did they really have a choice between a tech and art rotation? My current 6th grader is taking a mix of tech and art classes at JW this year. I don't remember having her decide to do a tech rotation or arts rotation last year.

Yes, there were two quarter rotations to choose and no semester courses.

But for the other quarters, kids were still assigned to arts classes. It’s not like a kid would only get tech classes or arts classes. My dd put tech classes as her two top choices but she still did general music last quarter and will be doing studio art next quarter.

Ugh, last year you picked which rotation and the classes you wanted in those rotations. There are no choices this year. None. No choice rotations and no choices in the one and only rotation. You want robotics or coding? Great. You will end up with Culture and Music and be happy.

?
Obviously, the incoming 6th grader’s have a choice between arts rotation, band, orchestra or chorus. Are you saying if they choose arts rotation, they can’t select which arts class they want as their first choice?

Ahh, julius west. To accurately describe this school, I think I will resort to my old favorite google review of it and say that it is “crusty”. Don’t send your kids here- even if they’re too dumb to get into the magnets. Private is the way to go if you must.

Lol! Too bad we can’t afford private. I really despise JW... it’s so creepy. But we can afford a house in that area, it’s a nice neighborhood and DD wants to be with her friends... didn’t apply to the magnets

Honestly, all the RM feeders including the ESs are trainwrecks. RM is only a “good” school because of the IB, yet it’s still considered a decent school despite being a 7/10 on greatschools while blair is 9/10 and everyone knows about the magnet advantage! It’s probably the worst school in MCPS (The neighborhood, not the magnet)

Nobody ‘applies’ to the magnets. MCPS picks the kids it wants!

College Gardens is a decent feeder!

Though isn’t all of MCPS just a train wreck in general?

They can’t select ANY choices if you pick art rotation, let alone their first. They put you in whatever they want. So unless you sing or play an instrument you are out of luck. But I hear the band teacher is a nightmare. So many kids don’t stick with it anyway. Not sure about chorus.

Wait until College Gardens gets rezoned to Gaithersburg HS and JW loses all the KF kids.

MCPS is all talk when it comes to closing the Achievement Gap. Lots of useless initiatives and Black and Brown forums, but without a solid curriculum and good teachers, all that is USELESS. Extra Chromebooks and tablets for lower income kids does nothing to improve performance.

? What is creepy about JW? It seems like a normal, albeit, large MS. That was a weird comment. FWIW, my kids thought it was fine. DC now in 6th grade likes it well enough.

? What makes you say that? How do you know that ALL of them are trainwrecks. Do you have first hand experience with all five of the feeder ES?

You have to be a troll to say that RM is the *worst school* in MCPS. LOL

The problem with Julius West is that it has too many students. It will be over 1500 next year. The classes are packed and you have too many kids who need attention. Some students end up taking up all the time from teachers and admin due to behavior problems.

Guarantee they will only move out the remaining side of King Farm to Gaithersburg High School. Not the entire ES. They don't have the capacity and the school is actually in the city of Rockville. They won't move the whole school to the city of Gaithersburg. Then they will probably move Fallsgrove to Crown. RM will still have 5 schools going to it unless they move Twinbrook to Whitman, Johnson, or Churchill.

Bwahahaha. No chance that Twinbrook moves to Whitman, Johnson, or Churchill. The homeowners in those districts will never stand for it, and the BOE will kowtow to the noisiest and richest parents, like always.

There is no way they take Twinbrook out of RM. You know, diversity being the key word and all.
