Popular vacation destinations you’re not interested in

Vegas (been once and hated it)
Mexico resort cities (id love to go to Mexico City though)
Ireland (I went once. Didn’t find it that interesting or fun)
Basically any Atlantic coast beach. I’ll take a gulf beach any day.
Nashville (popular destination for bachelorette parties and such lately. It doesn’t appeal to me at all. And I’m from the south)
Cruises
I agree w OP re: Alaska

People don’t go there for the action, they go to relax on the beach.

+1. The people who don’t enjoy just relaxing at the beach are those that freak out at having to spend consecutive days at home with their children and must plan an outing. Some people are afraid of their own company.

So, I don't ever need to go to Hawaii, London, or anything "big", "it", or "once in a lifetime".

You like going to places when you can't find an open restaurant?

Not PP but while that can be a downside the lack of crowds can outweigh it sometimes.

Only local places are open after the tourists leave, and that's what I like. High season means everything is for the tourists. So much kitsch

I am baffled that anyone could possibly include Paris or London on this list. Or Spain. Mind boggling.

But you are ok with someone including the Grand Canyon and Yosemite?

Eh, no, I guess not. But those destinations are not really bucket list. Just more places most Americans wind up at some point. But come to think of it, I guess most Americans also make it to London, Paris, and Spain these days.

In whose world are Grand Canyon and Yosemite not bucket list destinations? They are among the most spectacular sites in the world. I know a ton of Americans and Europeans who have those on their dream list of destinations.

So many Americans have to save for years to be able to get to and then enjoy Western Parks.

Sometimes I hate DCUM.

Big outbreak of norovirus at Yosemite right now. Google it.

What does this have to do with anything?

The majority of dcum hates cruises and loves national parks. Many mention norovirus as a reason they hate cruises. Yosemite has a rather serious norovirus outbreak at the moment. Funny.

The Carribbean. Most of those resorts are just like any old casino with the cheesy decorations and stuff. You can’t really leave the resort to experience the rest of the country because it’s not safe.

There are so many beautiful towns, parks, and states in our own country I want to see before some bargain basement tourist trap.

My list exactly, in that order.

I am not remotely interested in ever traveling to Alaska. Maybe for free. I know a lot of people go and absolutely LOVE it, but it’s so so low on my list.

How about you?

Those massive cruises. Anywhere. No interest in those boats.

Beyond that it's hard to think of a place I wouldn't go to. There are places I don't want to return (Qatar, dull and ugly).

My DH got food poisoning of some sort in Yosemite. Luckily it was towards the end of our stay, and it was still worth the trip (maybe easier for me to say than for him!)

Might have been noro. Tough to distinguish the two.

But for now, Snowshoe is fine — I dislike cold weather enough as it is, so if I’m going to spend allll that money that it would cost to go to CO/UT in the dead of winter, I’d rather go somewhere where it’s actually warmer than where I live...

The skiing is sooo much better though.

If you are cold, invest in better clothing. The technology has come a long way.

I have no interest in the Massachusetts beaches. I don't get the appeal of swimming in a cold ocean and the sand doesn't look that nice.

Also India and China for their dirtiness.

Anonymous wrote:Outer Banks — boring. I love the beach, but I’d rather go somewhere like Cape Cod or San Diego or Naples in FL where there is more to the destination than just miles and miles of beach houses and the beach.

Vegas — not super into gambling or bars or partying (I promise I’m not a TOTAL loser, haha) so...meh

Dominican Republic, Mexico, or any other vacation destination where you’re basically walled off in your resort. I like to be able to walk into town and stuff like that. [/quote

You are not walled off in the resorts in Mexico (at least on Cancun/Riviera Maya/Yucatan Peninsula side). Very safe to walk around and shop, eat, etc.
