This is as big of a mistake for the DNC as sabotaging their own candidate Bernie back in 2016. They're also going to give Trump an order of magnitude more free air time with the press right before 2020. He'll get to campaign for $0 while the Dems will have to raise hundreds of millions with still 20 candidates to whittle down.

It's a perfect cover-up for Trump for loss in 2020
Market is going to tank by then impeachment or not. At least he'll be able to blame Democrats for market crash, and losing reelection.

Please understand that we need to impeach this President FOR THE PRINCIPLE OF IT. Removal from office is separate. We need to get the Senators' votes on record, because some GOP Senators are in peril back home and this might cost them re-election. More importantly, we need this for the history books, as proof that we still have morals and ethics in this country.
We don't care that the base is riled up, because his base is not enough to win him a second term! However, 24/7 news coverage will ensure that those on the fence will vote for someone else, or stay home.

Trump Pence Pompeo Barr McGuire Mulvaney Mnuchin Giuliani... and that’s just in this specific Ukraine incident and not the entire whistleblower’s complaint. If the whistleblower dam does indeed break and more people come out of the woodwork, can you even imagine how many people are gummed up in felonies? How many of the Trump kids are getting in trouble? Wishing the above were true does not make it so. The "free air time" you're talking about will include hours and hours of Trump's dirty laundry and illegal actions being aired. And voters will take note because even the ones who aren't paying attention are getting tired of the Trump Circus.
