Oh, for Pete's sake. CPB is bottom of the barrel for law enforcement in terms of hierarchy/prestige, and riddled with white supremacists.

"According to ProPublica, roughly 9,500 people are part of the Facebook group, called “I’m 10-15” — a reference to the Border Patrol code for “aliens in custody” — created in August 2016. In postings, members mocked the deaths of migrants, posted about throwing burritos at Latino members of Congress, and targeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) with fake illustrations of her engaging in oral sex with migrants and President Donald Trump."

For many people, including many posters on this forum, that is a good thing, not a bug.

He must have been darn impressive to make it through a process where 5% are admitted (imagine the rate for non-legacies...2-3%?).

Exactly how are these foreign students staying here??

You ought to thank LE organizations such as CBP for allowing you to say something like this. It is the men and women of CBP who protect your freedom of expression, among others. Just don't try this kind of nonsense in NKorea - you'll be pinpointed, hauled away in the dead of the night, and sent to "re-education" camp for your "blasphemy."

Having dealt with CBP in the past, I would call them anything BUT premier. They act on impulse rather than fact and hope that judges will sort it out later. I was detained once for two hours and told they don;t "give a shit" if I miss my connection because they could not recognize the document issued by then INS. They know foreigners/immigrants have zero recourse for the way they are treated so they treat us like animals. I am a law-abiding citizen who has always followed the rules, BTW.

Spoken like an ignoramus who has never dealt with them. Some of us have real experiences we draw from.

They get jobs in and companies to sponsor them. They get married. You know, just like you.

I would imagine a Harvard educated person will have no problem getting a job anywhere.

Above comes from the Harvard Crimson article but
was omitted from the initial thread quote.

Why do we let students into the US that don't like us?
It seems there are plenty of international students
that like us and want to study in the US.

It looks like there was problematic material on the
student's phone.

I have plenty of Facebook friends who post political points of view that I don’t agree with. Don’t you? Or have they all unfriended you? He didn’t post any of it or like any of the posts.

Right, but neither the two of you are applying for a student visa from a location that is known to be a hotbed of activities that are hostile to US and our allies. Imagine your kid wants to have a sleepover with a friend from school, he is from a part of the neighborhood with a lot of drug use and domestic violence - lets say a trailer park. Are you going to have second thoughts about that kid coming over to sleep in your house? How many of you are going to sit down with your child and say "I don't want you hanging out with him". Is this fair to that kid from the trailer park? Life is not fair.

I'd be more concerned if I saw them wearing a MAGA hat, today's equivalent of a white hood.

Okay, so you are admitting that if your child wanted to have a sleepover of a friend who is from a neighborhood of vocal MAGA types - you would be perfectly fine with the sleepover and your kid hanging out with that friend?

The kid doesn’t support MAGA and wants to come over? Yes, of course. Happy to provide a safe haven.

so in your world it isn't possible for LE organizations to this and not be riddled with extremists? We can't have both?

There's always that 2% in any organization. Show me one that doesn't have bad apples.

Have you ever dealt with them? Not as an American Citizen but as a foreigner trying to enter? You would know that it's a lot more than 2%.

You are trying to say you personally dealt with more than 2%, that you hane a personal knowledge of more than 2% of their employees? 2% of approximately 10000 employees is 200. You are making no sense. Each time you travel, you may - or may not - run into 1 of their employees.

First off, there are roughly 60000 employees in CBP. 9500 is 16%. So that is 8x your number.

Second, in a LE organization isn't 2% too much? And if it isn't too much, then why should I thank them? Right now, I have an 1 in 6 chance that I'm thanking someone who is, well, like you.

If you have a personal knowledge of even 1 bad apple, I am sure CBP, as a premier LE organization in the world, would love to hear from you. We are talking someone who is rotten, as opposed to someone you have a beef bc s/he is doing his or her job s/he was hired to do. And unlike in NKorea, you’ll be protected, even as a foreigner. They’ll make sure you’ll be able to speak freely, unlike in some countries.
