Surprise -most of the world doesn’t like the US. Why hold this kid responsible? |
This exactly. |
A tenured professor was fired for having pro-Palestinian views. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Avila would be cancelled. This country is trying to outlaw Palestinian existence. |
At Harvard?? |
By this you actually mean “my kid”. |
Are you talking about Steven Salaita? If so, that's hardly an accurate representation of what happened. |
? |
Common sense Another spot for a us citizen |
your kid still isn't getting in. |
+1 International students are an important part of higher education in this country and add to the diversity of all our kids' experiences. The decision the CBP made based upon their whim just means that Harvard can spend more tuition dollars getting this poor kid a lawyer and trying to get him back in the country, rather than on financial aid. |
Did a long time ago. It's a LAC now falling apart because alums stopped giving and endowment has shrunk to one of the worst in the U.S. for a small LAC. |
I suspect there may be something that's not discussed by the media. CBP is one of the premier LE organizations in the world. It may have acted on an intel it couldn't reveal to the media. |
This is sarcasm, right? |
If a student is exceptional enough to be admitted to Harvard, we should want them here. The chances of them staying here after graduation and contributing to a US industry are there.
He must have been darn impressive to make it through a process where 5% are admitted (imagine the rate for non-legacies...2-3%?). |
Oh, for Pete's sake. CPB is bottom of the barrel for law enforcement in terms of hierarchy/prestige, and riddled with white supremacists. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/7/2/20678839/border-patrol-facebook-group-posts-racist-sexist "According to ProPublica, roughly 9,500 people are part of the Facebook group, called “I’m 10-15” — a reference to the Border Patrol code for “aliens in custody” — created in August 2016. In postings, members mocked the deaths of migrants, posted about throwing burritos at Latino members of Congress, and targeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) with fake illustrations of her engaging in oral sex with migrants and President Donald Trump." |
