Anyone have the list of colleges TJ's class of 2019 is headed to?

Not all reported for 2019, but trend is toward 130.

It's simple folks. Most TJ grads consider VTech to be below safety and unfortunately, UVA sucks for CS and engineering so more and more TJ kids are opting to go OOS. My recent TJ kid opted to go to Berkeley.

There could be something to that. With about 75% of TJ students reporting in the Bull Elephant, 16 indicated they were enrolling at VT in 2019, down from 38 in 2018. 37 were enrolling at UVA, down from 72 in 2018.

Several expensive institutions that offer little aid on that list. Impressive list.

I know several UVA CS grads who didn't get job offers after graduating in the last couple years so the word is spreading that it doesn't pay to go to UVA for Computer Science and many college kids are studying CS these days. The top schools for CS are MIT, Stanford, Berkeley and CMU and they get all the top offers for CS grads.

Do you know why? If they were top half of the class with a solid internship record, then I would worry. If not, there's always people who are not suited to CS who get caught up in the hype. Multiple people don't get offers either at Stanford/Cal/CMU/MIT.

UVA is ranked #38 at csrankings ahead of Duke/Yale so I assume it's a very respectable 2nd tier program; past stats suggest its top people are scouted by Big4. The only issue I have of the program is that most of its grads come back to DMV and this is a graveyard for CS careers about to take off.

Not sure if he was top 50 or bottom 50 but he said not many companies come to UVA for CS grads as opposed to business/finance. Sounds like even VaTech would be better than UVA for CS grads but top VA HS grads do not want to go to VaTech.

It is not good that more of these kids aren't enticed to stay in state.

VT has a very large (about 8K undergraduates), comprehensive, and well regarded engineering school, but it appears not many of the TJ kids seem satisfied going there.

I think bottom 10% of TJ graduating class goes to VT.

208 going out of state, 98 in-state Virginia. TJ students are voting with their feet.

Yes. UVA is only good for business majors and TJ grads typically do not want to major in business.

According to the Bull Elephant, only three Virginia schools enroll a significant numbers of TJ grads. UVA with 37, W&M with 28, and VT with 16. Pitt (16), Michigan (14), Cornell (13), Carnegie Mellon (12), Illinois (11), Purdue (9), Berkeley (8), and Chicago (8) have as many or more than any other Virginia schools.

VA just doesn't have a very good engineering universities. VT is just not a school that TJ kids want to aspire to.

The Bull Elephant does not have complete data. I would guess that many of the approximately 100 left off the list are attending a Va school
