You think you are so smart but your approach says a lot about you and why your kids would never do well in life. If your kid is playing a game (soccer for example) and her team is down 3-0 with 2 min to go. Do you tell your kid to stop playing? Or do you tell your kid to do her best and finish the game? Sometimes you learn more from the journey than the end point. Being able to complete what you started is a priceless lesson in life. Sigh...

Except, it’s not like a soccer game (team effort). It’s more like being in the Ironman (individual competition). If my child doesn’t finish, no one else is hurt. But even with a soccer game, if my child wanted to stop because she felt physically run down, emotionally distraught, or otherwise like continuing was not in her best interests, I’d support her decision to stop playing —team or no team.

You do you. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Coming from a cluster ES of RM, I am extremely nervous. There used to be so many complaints of JW and now it seems like RM has had so many issues. Fights, sex in halls, fired teachers, teachers leaving, scores going down, and they are consistently going down in the rankings every year.

Is it the principle or the program? Is the program a bandaid on a bad school? Or is the program getting too much attention and leading to a bad school. I don't know, but a lot of parents seem to be complaining. Old teachers. Teachers that don't communicate. Principal issues, and now staffing issues.

We almost chose a house in QO district and I thought this would be the better school. Thinking we made the wrong decision.

Its DCUM version of RM and really every other school. You are mentioning about 10 years worth of incidents. My DC graduated last year. Had a good 4 years, nice group of friends, fine in college.

I'm thinking you are a troll, but ok.

What MS doesn't have any issues or parental complaint? Do you think there are no fights in QO Cluster? Teachers/admin getting fired?

We are in the RM cluster. One headed to JW, the other in RMIB. We looked in the W clusters but chose RM. Gaithersburg was just a bit too far out. I don't think we made the wrong decision. I'm really happy we chose RM.

I am not a troll and there aren't many issues with Lakelands and QO on this board. I see JW and RM all of the time. I am sure there are other issues in every school, but not headline news or always on forums. There is definitely a huge cut off in the kids in and out of this program. That should be concerning to everyone.

If I were to guess from what I'm reading here, it's the principal's unwillingness to embrace and foster this program that is harming the school more than anything.

DO NOT EVER BASE DECISIONS ON WHAT YOU READ ON DCUM. It is, at BEST, a fun-house-mirror reflection of reality.

Certain areas have a higher representation on this forum than others. That's one. The other thing could be outside folks (trolls) stirring the pot. I'm 100% positive there are some RM parents who don't like the cluster, and I'm also 100% positive that there are some RM parents who like the cluster.

We also don't hear much about lots of other clusters on here even though they probably have larger problems than RM, most likely because the people who live there don't post much on this forum.

As a PP stated... never judge where to live based on this anonymous forum (sorry Jeff).

Again, the Principal's own child applied to the program. Let's put the parent hat on for a minute and not the Principal hat. Would I want my child to apply to a program that I personally don't like and want to foster? I'm thinking not.

Personally, I think it's just MCPS-wide issues. It's a large school system. Too large to manage well. Many schools are overcrowded and will continue to get more overcrowded.

I don’t know this person. But I think it would be politically weird not having his/her child apply if they live not too far from RM.

It is a streamline into a better college. Whether it is a decent program or not. Some parents are okay with pushing rigor and kids staying up past midnight nightly to get into a "top" college.

I think it would awkward for your dad to be the principal...

What if the principal wants the program to be easier so more students can access including his own? Talking about logic.

Just FYI as it's a bit related to this topic: I noticed this testimony from last night's board meeting. In a quick glance thru looks like the cluster rep is trying to help but is up against a push to 'fix' the IB program by making it available in more locations.
