Celebrating Everyone but actual mother's on mother's day?

Childless women are being celebrated as mother's to their dogs, and there are memes going around "remembering the women who chose not to have children" (emphasis mine.) Is it really too much to ask to just celebrate mother's on MOTHER'S Day?

(I do think it is appropriate and nice to be mindful of women experiencing infertility on Mother's Day, which is a lot different than celebrating childfree women on mother's day.)

How do other peoples choices affect you?

Why am I supposed to celebrate someone who chose not to be a mother on…Mother’s Day? Be a mother or not but why do you expect to be honored on Mother’s Day if you aren’t a mother due to your own choices?

It's stupid but it plays into the stupidity of making everyone happy! It's just as stupid as giving halos to women with children.

I think anyone dumb enough to call themselves a “dog mom “ deserves a dumb card. Just more meaningless money for hallmark.

A pair of gay dads are celebrating themselves today. They have a whole day in June!

Oh no, happiness. Where can I go to escape the oppression of people trying to make me happy.

2x the people need 2x the days. Simple math.

They can't take each other to brunch on the same day.

I severely doubt anyone wants *you* celebrating them. They are probably relieved that you are busy on DCUM and not bothering them (and I'm happy to help babysit you, as a gift to them).

Can I just ask how many threads you intend to start this week about how people without kids are so dumb, and dogs are the worst? A lot more this weekend, do you think?

I also don't understand how you real moms have so much time to post today, given that you're supposed to be luxuriating on an altar for the next 12 hours or something.

Here's to you!

I hadn't noticed any non moms demanding any praise. Maybe lay off FB and IG and you won't be triggered into wasting the day worrying about pointless things to whine about.

+1. I mean, really.

If there are enough of these people in your life complaining about this that you notice it as a trend, then there is something wrong with you. You're the constant in this. It's not a common thing.

Op here. I actually started this thread in 2019 and no others on this topic since then. I have time right now to scroll the internet because I’m relaxing on the couch while my family makes me brunch.

Good for you! I hope their thoughtfulness doesn't leave you totally bereft of things to complain about. Certainly even with everything you've ever wanted at your fingertips someone is out there stealing your thunder today, and every day!

There is really not that much to celebrate as a society on Mother's Day.

Just a commercialized holiday that replaces actual care of mothers.

Yeah, I dont have kids, kinda by choice, kinda because I never met someone I wanted to have kids with and I don't want to be a single mom.

I have noticed the phenomenon you speak of. I'm kinda like, dude, it's ok to have one day to celebrate moms. I'm ok.

I do think it's a painful day for many people, tho, and I respect that

This is because Americans are fat AF. Lay off the pie, I’m not sure why you need government intervention to tell you that.
