LMVSC under the old TD (who is now at SYC) didn't really have a club-wide ethos or philosophy, at least not beyond the red (1st) teams on the boys side. For those teams, the philosophy was "dribble dribble dribble." Oh, I'm sorry, I think he calls it "technical skills and creativity" (it's still just dribbling). It's kind of fascinating and disgusting to watch such athletic and talented players with such underdeveloped decision-making. The TD not really paying attention to the 2nd and 3rd teams at LMVSC meant a couple of things: 1) The teams with good coaches (and some of the best coaches at LMVSC have 2nd and 3rd teams) actually learned to how to play soccer beyond dribbling, and 2) The teams with not-so-great or inattentive coaches just had to suck it up, or the parents would take the brunt of the responsibility while the coaches got paid. |
| Nobody on this board is worried about CYA's team records. Go back to your thread. |
Someone brought him up in this thread to compare to their new TD, skippy. Carry on discussing your own nonsense. |
| I was just making a parallel between the two clubs and the boost in social media presence under new TDs. No actual records were even posted. Is your spouse cheating for you to be so bitter? |
I imagine there can’t have been a club-wide philosophy at LMVSC. I’ve even an LMVSC team (surely B team) that just fed the ball to the CDM who played long passes down the field like a QB while the rest of the players ran routes like wide receivers. Odd stuff. |
Ok, just to be clear, I have no issues with the connection to increased social media presence. I took issue with the person who tried to defend whoever the TD is at CYA with saying his team is doing well. A single team's record does not speak to the level of coaching, there are many factors. And as someone stated above, a TD's job isn't one team, but the whole club. Also, this thread isn't to argue about the CYA situation, whatever it may be. |
LOL--what a stupid response! |
Your implicit argument was that a coach leveraging social media to promote your club was mutually exclusive with doing a good job coaching. You raised the example of another club's coach doing something similar with Social Media. The other coaches primary team has been successful. This completely undercuts your point. Next time try to find a better example to make your points and you won't get yourself into this sort of thing. |
Because of the anonymous nature of these posts, it's easy to get lost at how many or few people you're talking to. I'll take credit for saying the new SYC TD spends his time on his phone, he did so at our daughter's game. I did not bring up the CYA comparison, and while I don't think it brought much to the conversation of this thread, it at least spoke to the fact that maybe our current situation isn't unique. And maybe the increase social media presence will come along with better coaching. I would rather the CYA discussion though go find their own thread. Their TD, records, and whatever else doesn't affect SYC and LMVSC families. Also, I reiterate my point, team success in records can be linked to many factors. If this TD goes out and recruits his old team to SYC (not something I have any knowledge of but that has been suggested on this thread), what will he have done for the kids here at SYC. Tryouts are still 4 months away and if his plan is just to recruit, it doesn't sound like he's doing much for the players here. So far, I've just seen a guy who showed up to our game and spent the time on his phone and talking with his friend. |
Ahem, evaluating... |
| You bring up a good point. If the team’s results are good, but a coach is just on his phone most of the time, how much coaching or direction is actually going on? |
During a game, there really shouldn’t be much chatter from the sideline during play. That’s actually a sign of bad coaching/joysticking. A really good coach is able to get his points across during training. Specific tactics can be communicated pregame and reinforced/changed with quick chats at half. If there is a serious issue during a game, there may be place for a brief word with a player or two, but otherwise silence is golden. That said, I see nothing wrong with a coach/TD making recruitment materials during a well played game to promote their top teams. It’s actually part of their job, especially for a smaller club with no financial backing from big sponsors, large scale rec program, or a larger entity behind them. |
| Was out at dinner this weekend and heard the table behind us talking about their 'soccer disaster' and their coach who was 'fired via email'. Being nosey I asked them if they were referring to SYC and they were. Turns out their daughter (U13 or U14) was coached by Vincent who is one of the coaches who was let go. They said their new coach is now coaching three teams, and that the TD (Este) shows up to the practices but just stands around. They said the whole situation is awkward. In addition, this team had a parent meeting with Dotty, which they said was a total disaster as Dotty basically refused to answer any questions/acknowledge their concerns. I'd like to know if other teams have had meetings with Dotty - at a bare minimum there needs to be another town hall. |
| The stuff people come up with on this board is really just comical. I'll bet the above happened just like you said it. LMAO. |
|
There is a SYC Townhall coming up next month. There is everyone's chance to voice their concerns in public...no?
