If they renamed it George Washington High some old alum would be upset because GW High in Alexandria used to be W-L's archrival.

Washington-Lincoln is the best choice. More stuff in this state should be named after prominent Union leaders.

Washington-Lincoln does indeed seem a much better choice than Washington-Loving, which makes about as much sense as Adams-Roe or Jefferson-Miranda.

Because I think it is stupid to have half the name of a school named after people who aren’t prominent national figures and don’t have any connection to our community? It is surely a bunch of progressives who want to make themselves feel all warm and snuggly for naming the school over people who fought for their right to marry and against white power trying to prevent any mixing of races. I never said I didn’t like what they stood for. They just don’t stand for something related to George Washington or Arlington county’s history.

They are certainly an admirable couple but, unfortunately, their name is also an adjective that sounds ridiculous in combination with Washington and in the context of a high school name. It doesn't make someone not-Progressive, not-racist to see that.

I would love to help my W-L son do a survey of the student body to find out what those beyond the student council think of the name (I do survey research for a living) but since he's a white male, I am 100% certain that he would be smeared as a racist for daring to ask for further consideration and feedback from the kids who have to live with the name. So, not setting him up for that. It needs to come from a Black or Latino student.

My white son has a diverse group of friends and they all say the name is ridiculous. But I definitely think in the current environment, only students of color would be given any standing to say so.

You really think a Black W-L football player is going to be happy to go out on the field as the "Washington-Loving Generals"? It sounds like (in the most positive interpretation) like Generals who really, really liked Washington. Of course the name is going to be mocked by the kids at Yorktown and Wakefield.
