Because I’m an insider and she’s competent. I trust her to appoint excellent department heads, which is critical. I absolutely don’t trust Blair to have a clue. I’m not a fan of Elrich because he’s disorganized and has a staff with a one track mind. They know how government works and that’s a plus. They are nice. But a CE has to care about all issues and the entire county. . Floreen will do that. Fussy and mean and grumpy. But she will do that. The policy direction you care about — development or anti-development — is more in the hands of the planning board and Council. And that newly privatized economic development entity— MCEDC. Which hasn’t done much. I quite frankly do not know whether this new Council will be competent or not. Far too much turnover. Time will tell. |

Um, no, development is 100% the Council. Planning Board approves EVERYTHING that comes before them. Actually, in White Flint 2, there was one area where they gave the developers more density than they were asking for (Staff recommended X, developers asked for X + Y, thanks to Dreyfuss and the others, Board gave developers X + Y + Z).
It was Riger Berliner who cut the density for Westbard, and the Council who usually rubber stamps what the Planning Board wants, unless they hear otherwise from their constituents, or their name is Nancy Floreen. She is funded by the developers - they love her, as she gives them everything they want. FYI, those who you think are anti-development are mostly not: they are anti- over-development in areas where traffic congestion is already unbearable and schools are overcrowded with no end in site. They would welcome businesses! Just not dwelling units when the current infrastructure can't handle the current residents. |
If you're an insider, then you've surely seen her in action. And what she mostly shows, when in action, is not competence. If she were a different person, she could be competent. But she's not; she is who she is. As for the Council: Rice - incumbent Katz- incumbent Navarro - incumbent Hucker -incumbent Friedson - has worked in state government Riemer - incumbent Albornoz - has worked in county government Jawando - has worked in the federal government Glass - has been active in county issues So, 5 incumbents (including 2 I'd rather not have on the council), 4 new people all with experience of how government works. I'm feeling hopeful about the county council. |
Hucker and Riemer are worthless. |
I'm the PP you're responding to, and no, those weren't the 2 incumbents I had in mind. |
lol, well unless you are a coworker of mine, I'm sticking with my assessment. |
| The difference between Elrich and Blair is now under 100 votes with what was posted tonight. |
|
86 vote difference. We will know by 9:00pm tonight, but it looks like Erlich...

| It hasn't posted yet. Ugh. The wait is killing me. |
| Elrich now up by 80 votes. Looks like I'll be voting for Nancy Floreen... |
|
Just posted. Elrich won by 80 votes:

Same here. I do wonder if Blair will finance his own recount. If somehow Floreen can't get on the ballot as an Independent, there should be a massive write-in campaign for either Blair or Floreen. 80 votes is certainly not a mandate...hopefully this will keep Elrich in check - assuming he prevails. |
| I have no idea if this is possible, but could voters start a recall campaign the day after Elrich takes office? |
No need. The margin is so thin the County has to pay for the recount. |
Dear lord no. Might as well hire a developer to take over as county executive. That’s the same as voting for Nancy Floreen. |
