Parents are the captains of the boats. Special policies need to wake up these drunk captains just like the police catch the drunk drivers |
what in the hell are you people even talking about??? |
PP is comparing non-affluent parents to drunk boat captains. |
It's because the parents in those schools do a lot of supplementing (tutors, SAT/ACT prep etc.) It has nothing to do with better teachers. It's all about the peer group and parents pushing their kids to do really well and then supplementing. |
wow. dcum. never fails to amaze. |
I did not say the west part of the count does not have problems. They have some serious problems too, but these are completely different ones. Just like you mentioned too much pressure. That's why to separate them and let them deal with their own issues. |
I mean, you DID say that "those people" just need to spend 30 minutes a day with their kids, which is advice you might want to apply closer to home. If all the W parents got home from the firm before 11 pm, they might notice that little Bentley is a cutter. |
You think irresponsible parents are better than drunk drivers? We just had the school shooting, and 11 students were killed. Don't you think these irresponsible parents are not worse than drunk drivers? |
Now you're comparing non-affluent parents to the parents of people who take guns to school and murder 17 people. |
Pp said irresponsible parents?not matter whether they are affluent or non-affluent. Do you make living via taking moral high ground? |
The irresponsible parents are the ones who live in the non-"W" school zones, from which the OP wants to split. Though it's true that there are plenty of affluent parents who live elsewhere in the county. So ok, PP is comparing parents who don't live in Bethesda and Potomac to drunk boat captains. |
Ha ha. You should move to a communist country like previously soviet Union or China, and will thrive there. Communists think it is the most important thing is to take the Moral high ground. You appRently have that talent. |
Perhaps the takeaway here is that affluent white folks raise mass murderers? Parkland is a pretty nice neighborhood. Or maybe the takeaway is that world is terrible and random, and throwing stones at other peoples' parenting is just bad karma. |

Interesting study from the Center for American Progress that suggests the ideal school district size--from the standpoint of efficient spending--is 2,000-4,000 students. I've only read the summary findings, so far, but some of the arguments are that small school districts (defined in the paper as fewer than 1,000 students) do have higher costs, but large school districts suffer from bureaucratic issues and a one size fits all administrative mentality.
Like a lot of things, the solution seems to be to find a happy medium. https://www.americanprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/SchoolDistrictSize.pdf |
But efficient spending is not the purpose of a public school district. Education is. Which is why, for example, school districts can't save lots of money by kicking out all of the kids who have expensive special needs. |
