If you think op and other posters are trolls, just get off the thread. Problem solved. Then the suckers who buy into the scam, including me, can happily comment. Win-win.

I agree or something was up with the "private school" and private tester.
Two kids coming from private schools with three scores all in the 99% ranges?

With GBRS of 15 from private school and advanced math and essay samples??? Come on....

Op here

As someone suggested I emailed Mr. Oscar in aap office

He called back and said the aap coordinator will call me tomorrow as she was sick out 2 days

I also emailed AART of the school he will be going and she responded saying we can apply next January and the reason for rejection is usually not given by AAP office

That's ridiculous suggesting that you apply again next January. Sorry but a bunch of less qualified kids will get in this year. If they don't fix this I'd figure out who to contact up the chain. Is your child Asian?

It sounds like the logical next step. Perhaps the committee will explain or change their mind, but that seems unlikely.

The logical next step is for OP to figure out who should be contacted regarding FCPS' failure to provide gifted education, which legally falls under the category of special education. I know many kids with lower scores who got in. It's become an arbitrary process that isn't meeting the needs of kids who really fall in the gifted range based on test scores.

Stand down crazy lady! Put your tiki torches away and call off the dogs. You’d think OP was told that her home was about to go into foreclose based on your response. The response from the AART typical and totally appropriate. The coordinator of AAP has been out sick for 2 days. She’ll call OP tomorrow.

What’s zip code of your AAP school you’re going to go if accepted?

I don't think you're alone in this. I know one family who is sending their kids to a Catholic school around there and got rejected.

I don’t get this

AAP is a generic program that is offered for all fc residents if found gifted

Isn’t it against law or discrimination if they select differently if they come from private schools?

I am the other poster who is in a similar situation as op. I also emailed Oscar but have not heard back yet. However, I know that I am not the only one in this situation. We had done our wisc with Delgrahn, as someone on this forum had suggested. She was shocked that we didn't get in first round, but she also said that FCPS do limit based on which school you apply as she use to be on the committee for aap. She noted that is the reason they as you on the original application your home ES. At this point I plan on staying in private school for now and feel blessed to have that option, but dontb think it's right for so many people who don't have that option and have extremely high scores.

A holistic program looks at more than just test scores. That means that some students with high test scores might not be eligible, while some students with lower scores might be.

Anonymous wrote:NP here. We are in the same boat as OP. My DD received 99 percentile on Nnat, 99 percentile on COGAT and 99 percentile on WISC. Grbs of 15. We showed well rounded athletic abilities as she is involved on multiple sports, piano etc.. creative writing, language and math samples. We also applied from private school. I called my local aap and was told they dont know what happened, they dont make decisions.

OP what is your AAP school?

Other kids got in with lower scores from my school. My school administator called the main ASP administrator and was told scores and selections are based on which ES you are applying to. Some schools are very over crowded. They listed my school as being one of the ones they are cutting slots on this year along with a few others.

There is no cap on the number of kids accepted to AAP.

Sports have no correlation to bitterness and have no bearing on an AAP application.

+1, If school has more AAP kids they will open new class.

The problem is finding teachers for AAP classes. You can't put most of the teachers in Gen ed in AAP classes without training and that can't happen overnight. Many teachers are not interested in teaching AAP classes because of the commitment to get certified for the next several years. To keep existing teachers hired in their school, they want to ensure the balance between Gen ed and AAP classes and not too many AAP classes.

Actually, you can.

AAP kids can also get long term subs without gift3d certification. Happened in my kid's AAP class a few years back and that teacher was awesome.
