Tom Price's disgusting behavior

I'm trying to parse out Tom Price's statement that he will reimburse taxpayers for "his seat" on the charter jets. I'm guessing he had at least 10 people with him for each trip. So instead of paying the $300K that his choices to travel on the private plane cost, he'll end up reimbursing the US Government $30K? That's being really cheap given that the other 9 people could have flown commercial were it not for his expensive tastes.

I love the statement that he's "taking the unprecedented step of reimbursing the government." Forgetting that the unprecedented step was the private jet for government business.

And these are only the unprecedented steps we know about. He's obviously comfortable bilking the taxpayers he works for. Personal net worth of $8 million and all that.

Do you remember that scandalous GSA conference back in 2010 where the GSA spent $800,000 for a lavish conference for hundreds of GSA employees. The people who organized that conference got into trouble as they should have and Congress decided that they would cut back on government travel expenditures. This was well-intentioned but it also made it difficult for govt workers to attend professional and academic conferences. The impact on govt researchers in particular was very deleterious.

Then there was the sequester and govt budget cuts which further cut travel budgets. I remember reading stories about FBI field agents having to buy their own gas.

It is so egregious to think that Sec. Price can get away with this without any major consequences. I bet if he was still in Congress he would be pillorying a govt worker who did something similar.

In my years and years at HHS, through multiple adminstrations, I:
Never traveled
Never got training approved
Went to one conference, local
Was part of a water club to get access to filtered water (humphrey's pipes had lead)
Bought all my own office supplies, including, during a bad period, copy paper, and also bought supplies for my RAs who were GS7s
Bought tampons and maxipads for the bathroom
Bought my own office chair

He is a disgusting, amoral man, who is surrounded by HHS staff struggling to do the right thing. Despicable.
