could West Potomac become a Marshall in 10 years?

I think people are discounting the revitalization from the mall and now the TSA. I'm not sure redrawing boundaries would do a better job of improving Lee than Fairfax county is already doing.

Couldn't afford 22308?

They'd need to change the MS assignments, too, of course. Then the kids don't want to pupil place.

Seems like an awful lot of unnecessary hassle and disruption of a LOT of people who are happy and settled.

Not going to happen. Fcps is not going to go out of their way to swap 1200+ kids from the high school and middle school they are each closest to and moving them to a school they are far from with no justificstion for so drastically lowering the quality of school zone for 600 families.

Where is it written that lower test scores in a higher-FRAMS school always means a lower-quality school?

I am in the West Springfield pyramid but I have many acquaintances whose kids have gone, are going, or will go to Lee and they've all been happy. People overreact about these things. I also have even more friends whose kids are at West Potomac and also haven't had any complaints.

The numbers don't tell the whole story.

When pablum like this appears on your school's web page, it's a good indication of a lower-quality school: "We are Life-long learners who Excel as Engaged global citizens."

This came right off Lee's FCPS profile. If something equally insipid had made its way onto West Springfield's profile, the parents would have demanded revisions. FCPS definitely needs to redistrict Lee and West Springfield.

This kind of 'insipid pablum' is everywhere in FCPS - for example, from Madison HS web page: Developing Creative, Resilient Global Citizens I'm getting a glimpse of what's motivating the Trump supporters - 'Global Citizens'? At lease they have 'Warhawks' for a mascot - until the sjw find out and make then change it to a robin ;=)

There are pockets of low income housing and pockets of very high income housing and pockets that are in the middle. If you assign schools by location, which is the easiest and most obvious solution, then these economic differences are inevitable. Isn't the good thing that Fairfax provides the same resources to all of the high schools so even if the student body is different they should, in theory, have the same opportunities. Is this not true?

I know many people who have sent their kids to West Potomac that have done very, very well. They have excellent music and arts there, good quality teachers, and the same course offerings as other AP high schools.

Same.

Those won't be boundaries in any traditional sense. It would just be a lottery program for school assignments. And it would send parents fleeing to privates and other school systems. No one buys in Vienna so their kids can be bussed to Annandale. Even the Democrats know that.

Let them go if they don't believe in a quality education for all students.

So your assumption is that the Vienna kids take a quality education wherever they go? You must think quite highly of them.

Don't be so dismissive. When the well-to-do lose faith in the public schools they take their children and they move and jobs move with them and then you have a Philadelphia, a Newark, a Detroit and on and on. Look at Houston - no well-off people put their kids in public schools, and they won't pay taxes to fund the schools either. Your objective of a "quality" education for all students is admirable, but completely unhelpful. For starters, what constitutes a "quality" education? Lincoln and Washington got a sufficient education in a one-room schoolhouse. FCPS spends more than $15,000 per year on average per student - note that this is approximately the same as in-state tuition at the flagship state universities. More money doesn't necessarily mean better outcomes. And you've seen with the Meals Tax vote that many citizens are fed-up with tax burdens. It's a huge concern to draw employers to invest in the area and to get employees to move here (and buy your house one day). A well-run, efficient, effective school system will attract employers & employees - by contrast, an expensive, ineffective school system that doesn't serve the ambitions of potentially mobile parents is the start of economic decline. But don't believe me, listen to the Leadership team, the Chamber of Commerce, the Supervisors and Realtors. "Let them go" is an immature reaction to a difficult and important issue.
