sjc acceptance letters?

I don't know how anyone would know this, unless you have insider information about every Catholic high school in the area. The course offerings are pretty similar across Catholic schools that don't have IB programs. We know very bright kids who are happy and successful at several different Catholic high schools, including SJC. Not every school is a good fit for every kid, but generalizations like this are pretty silly. They are also not really in the spirit of Catholic education.

Class is about 330.

Their yield last year was higher than expected so they are beginning to adjust admits. Plenty of kids on our neighborhood list serve were rejected. Bit of scrambling going on.

Wow 330?!! I seem to remember when we applied a couple of years ago, the class was around 250. What does this mean for class sizes, etc? Doesn't sound good that the class size is growing so quickly. Glad we decided against SJC.

You clearly are new here. Yield has been higher the last few years as SJC has begun another growth period (BTW, both GZ and SJC have gone back and forth on enrollment numbers and both almost failing completely at times). A big start was the Kimsey Science Center in the early 2000s. Plank's latest donation of $16 million has once again started a massive growth period. The beauty of it all is that class size is typically less than 20. They have done an amazing job of keeping the school a community while growing. Great place. Sorry it wasn't a fit for your child.

And you threw in GZ and Prep because you felt like a dig?

I learned the SJC waitlist is unlikely to move due record applications and applicants being allowed to apply to three Catholic schools rather than two this year. Ugh!

There was no dig and Prep wasn't even mentioned!

Oh, wow. I would think the expansion to three schools would reduce the number of apps to SJC but I guess not.

I know several families (including mine) that are declining acceptance. I suppose the waitlist movement depends on acceptance numbers vs. expected yield, but I would not give up hope.

There is no cap on schools you can apply too. I think you are confused the HSPT form with some sort of 'rule'.

PP, would you be willing to share why?

I think there is a cap for catholic school students applying to other catholic high schools. It's unlikely non-Catholic school students will want to apply to more than one or two Catholics.

For schools in the ADW who need HSPT scores for admission, you could send them to 3 schools this year. In the past it was only 2.

This is the correct answer.

So, my understanding is there were even more applications to SJC this year because of the expansion to 3 schools. Last year they received over 1100 applications for approximately 350 slots. I don't know how many they received this year. All schools give out more acceptances than available slots assuming there will be applicants who decline.

This is just wrong. Ours applied to 3 each a while ago - there is no cap or rule. hSPT goes to two schools (now three) you can select, but you can send the results to their schools too.
