I was up late last night trying to figure out how to find the money to send DS to SJC. I even thought about driving for Uber or Lyft at nights. |
It can be done! Family of 4 living in DC on a HHI of $160K. Also pondering how we can send our DS to SJC. |
I have friends turn on Uber in the am and pick up a fair on their way into the city. |
San Miguel children go to many different HSs not just SJC. |
| I'm in the same boat as these PPs trying to make it work |
| Median household income in the DC metro area is $93,000. https://www.washingtonian.com/2016/09/21/the-dc-area-has-the-highest-median-income-in-the-us-again/ |

Let's be honest here. My son shadowed a current football player at SJC who, despite having.FAILING grades in middle school, was on a full
scholarship. If you are 6'4", 300 pound black male, you are precisely the type of student SJC wants because they are doing everything they can to be the next IMG Academy. We will not be sending our child to a school which obviously cares more about athletics than academics. Can hardly wait to see what happens when Kevin Plank decides he is done giving to the school. |
Uh, you got your posters wrong. It's best to get them right when trying to call someone out. I am the family of 4/160k poster who said I got a simple letter saying my kid didn't qualify and I was disappointed. I didn't say they were "stingy". My family has been educated through Catholic schools for over 3 generations (not in this area). I know exactly what Catholic schools provide. I donate to catholic schools through my own kid's k-8 school as well as through my parish. Maybe it's you that should do a little reading and research, because I "literally" know what I'm talking about. |
Really? You sound bitter. I am sorry your child received a rejection letter. We are white and my child was thrilled to receive his acceptance letter. We are also coming from a private middle school. PP, I hope you have brighter days. |
Yikes! I doubt the kid would ever have shared that he failed in middle school, never mind that he is on a scholarship. This is BS coming from a family that was obviously rejected. Sad. |
| Did the letters say anything about numbers accepted or applied? |
| Over 1,100 applied |
| I know at least 15 families who applied and every single one was accepted. Maybe apps were down this year. |
That's hard to find. Even the small Avalon school does it https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/sports/highschools/avalon-footballs-rapid-build-rankles-some-montgomery-county-coaches/2014/08/07/19ac09f2-1da9-11e4-ab7b-696c295ddfd1_story.html |
As a parent of 2 SJC students, neither of which do athletics, I can assure you that my kids fell very cared about. They also love the entrepreneurial center Plank funded. How lucky are my kids to not only be in a true community environment but also have access to amazing faculties. I am sorry you are so bitter PP. I hope your child is just as happy at the school of their choice as ours are at SJC. |
