There is no cap on schools you can apply too. I think you are confused the HSPT form with some sort of 'rule'.

I think there is a cap for catholic school students applying to other catholic high schools. It's unlikely non-Catholic school students will want to apply to more than one or two Catholics.

This is just wrong. Ours applied to 3 each a while ago - there is no cap or rule. hSPT goes to two schools (now three) you can select, but you can send the results to their schools too.

This has not been the case for many years. There are some schools that use a different entrance exam, like Georgetown Prep, so that would not take up one of your choices, but you can only send your HSPT scores to three (previously two) Catholic schools in the archdiocese of Washington. (Plus one more in either Baltimore or Northern Virginia.) This is how it's been for at least the past 5 years.

This is correct. ADW only allows the HSP scores to go to three schools (previously 2 ). They (ADW) send the scores. You can not send the scores your self. Scores have to come from the ADW. If somehow someone was able to circumvent this process, it was against the rules.

ADW is not all catholic high schools. All of the Arlington schools, plus independents, are not in ADW.

I was told SJC had around 1200 applicants this year.

I was told they likely won't call on the waitlist due the number of offers made and the acceptances they anticipate.

I was going to ask that, how many Catholic high schools choices are there within the rule, given that many are single sex.

From the ADW.org site.

Instructions on selecting schools for HSPT reporting:

Check the box next to the one, two, or three high school(s) of your choice. Select one school from the drop down menu under the Fourth Choice option if you wish to have scores sent to a school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore or the Diocese of Arlington. If you select a Fourth Choice school, you will be charged $15 at the end of the high school registration process.

A placement test is required by all Catholic high schools unless otherwise indicated by the high school. The following Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Washington require the High School Placement Test (HSPT) in their admissions process:
Academy of the Holy Cross
Archbishop Carroll High School
Bishop McNamara High School
DeMatha Catholic High School
Elizabeth Seton High School
Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School
Gonzaga College High School
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School
St. John’s College High School
St. Mary’s Ryken High School
St. Vincent Pallotti High School

Nine other Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Washington have separate admissions procedures and should be contacted directly. For testing instructions for the Catholic high schools that do not require the HSPT, please refer to the school’s website:
The Avalon School
The Brookewood School
Connelly School of the Holy Child
Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School
Georgetown Preparatory School
The Heights School
St. Ann’s High School of St. Ann’s Infant and Maternity Home
St. Anselm’s Abbey School
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart

does that include returning students? or is that 1200 applicants for the incoming freshman class -- so the acceptance rate is around 25%?
Anonymous
I think the 1200 is new applicants. Returning students don't have to reapply.

That would make sense - also @ a 10% increase in applications over last year's record year for applications & acceptances, which led to larger freshman class. 10% could be due to sending apps to three schools, rather than one.

Large freshman class this year was from yield being higher than expected. Their admissions target is around 270. If it works the same this year, likely that waitlist will not even be touched, but it does vary year to year.

I heard they were not planning to go to the waitlist because they admitted more freshmen last year than they had anticipated.
