What do people mean when they say, 'He's all boy'?

Every single time I've heard it used, it was to excuse obnoxious behavior, that would be harshly condemned in a girl.

I'm not remotely offended by the phrase. I just think people who use it are idiots.

Oh, c'mon. Most of the time, people are making light of a situation. Like when you say "teenagers!" in exasperation or something about little girls being dramatic or acting like a princess when they're being a PITA.

Not everything has to be viewed through the DCUM lens of hyper-parenting-superiority.

Eh, I think gender stereotypes are usually stupid, and I've thought that since long before I had kids. I don't refer to my daughter as "acting like a princess" or "being a girly girl," and I think using stereotypes to justify bad behavior in boys is equally dumb.

I am as likely to attribute my son's bad behavior to his red hair as to his gender. (Damn gingers!)

What do you think about THAT?

it's also something that's said to excuse extremely shitty behavior on the part of coddled boys.

Trying to do the math here. There are women who deep down really wanted girls. So they coddled their boys, which I guess means they treated them too nicely because....I can't figure out that part, if the moms are annoyed that they didn't have girls. Unless you are saying that they treat the boys the way they would have treated girls. And now said boys act extremely...boyish? I seriously don't understand your post, except I do gather that you seem to have a lot of anger at people who use this phrase.

NP. I'm not taking sides here, but what math is involved? Is "do the math" a phrase you use a lot?
