I'm French and have never heard of this. Is it in the same category as French toast and French fries? Nothing to do with France?

Lol! People in this thread think calling something French makes it smart. They are delirious!

It's for Tan France. A designer who popularized the look.

Wait til you learn about German chocolate cakes.

Oh my god, are you 15 years old? The "French tuck" was around way longer than you've been, sweetheart. We were wearing it in the 80s.

Well, yes, but it’s been rechristened the “French tuck” after Tan.

It’s sloppy and stupid looking.

I have been doing the tuck just above one front pocket and I like it

Nobody cares what you think, either.

It looks good on the right person with the right shirt and pants. It's meant to be casual. It looks best on someone fairly thin.

Let’s bottom line this. The sloppy half shirt in, half shirt out, is a silly fad that barely looks OK on a tall, thin runway model, but looks pathetic on the average woman. Sloppy is just sloppy!

Well, since you've "bottom lined this," it must be so! I have no problem with the half tuck.

Well, bully for you.

I think it's named after Tan France of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. (Is he still on that show? Is that show still running?) Either he invented it or he promoted it.

I don’t know who Tan France is, but I did the half tuck when I was in middle school in the early 90s!

+1 I’m 50 and there’s so much tucking among the young. It looks terrible even on them.

Half tuck (where you tuck one side of your shirt into your pants and let the other side hang down) is dumb looking.

The front or French tuck (where you tuck in the front of a shirt but not the back) can be cute especially with slightly oversized tops. Plus it shows your actual waist which can be more flattering than letting it hang down.

Personally I prefer to fully tuck in most tops but I do think a half or French tuck can look good.

I think tucking in 1/4 of my shirt makes me look better. It hides my big hips. I’m short and overweight.
