You do sound like someone from Florida. Or the ghetto. But, I repeat myself.

Haha, the ghetto. In your dreams.

With a tax shelter "residence" in Liberty City.

Florida tags, hmm. So at a minimum you're violating DC law and committing insurance fraud. Perhaps you're also falsely using a Florida address to evade state income taxes.

Schools are funded by property taxes. I own a home in DC, and I pay my taxes. Hmm that. DC car registration is what, roughly $100-200 for two years. You cheat DC government out of more than that every year you lie on your taxes.

Me again. I also own property in Florida and pay the property taxes there. So, I am paying school taxes in two jurisdictions.

You know what I think about that?

Absolutely nothing, because I assume the school vets residency and someone's familial/custody/car ownership arrangement is none of my fucking business

Sadly, however, this city we have moved to seems to be full of a bunch of prissy, whiny, self-righteous pearl clutchers, who are outraged! that someone might (with no actual proof) be cheating them out of something.

We moved here with a pretty open mind--that has changed. Now, most of you disgust me.

aw. a young millennial. Thanks so much for moving here, young parent!

I'm gen x, thanks. But you're welcome. I am hopeful for all of us that we will leave and move back to a normal, happy city, where everyone is not an entitled snot who thinks they are playing by the rules and that everyone else is put to get them.

You know, like Haifa.
Anonymous
I don't think it's petty people or entitled snots making these claims.

As a rule follower, I find it disheartening to hear about the amount of fraud and waste that the city doesn't care about and tremendously frustrating that there is a "different rules apply to different people" mentality from the people who MAKE the rules.

I have accepted that living with this disconnect is the price I pay to live here. But that doesn't mean I like it.

Shit, you have DC employees themselves doing it. Is it fair to young white families that now occupy various quadrants of DC? No. But its also unfair that living in the city that the city has become unaffordable for many, and many have been displaced by greedy landlords and developers. Is it legal, no. But life is not fair. So get over it.

Since many of you seem like go getters, maybe you could create your own residency fraud parent task force. Then you could gather evidence and put together your own cases to present to the city. That would be a great use of your time instead of wasting your energy posting the same shit on multiple threads.

Actually, NOT this. People who commute from MD for DC jobs who are stealing pre-K spots from DC residents overwhelming are NOT low income but are relatively affluent by every definition and just want to use DC's full day preK to save cash for conveniences like summer vacations.

BTW, summer school is also free and available to all DCPS students -- so that's also free summer camp for those who commit residency fraud .

AS for cost, DCPS has the biggest funding of any school system in the nation. DCPS can afford to police itself.

I'm "relatively affluent", but I SAH and can't afford to send my kid to ANY private, even half day 2 days a week if we don't get in somewhere. So people committing fraud infuriate me. We made our choices (many of which centered around being able to stay in the city in our neighborhood) and understand we can't take free pre-K for granted, but when somebody with multiple properties who can currently afford to have their kid in full time daycare takes a slot we could've had? Yeah, I'm pissed.

Watch your language and get a grip. There are always open spots - even for PS/PK. Always. Your problem is that free isn't good enough for you, you also want it to be walking or a 5 minute drive from your house. So, get a grip, check your privilege, and either drive to the closest free PK (because there will be more than one) or else get a crowbar and jimmy open your wallet, and pay for what you want within a walking warm latte distance from your home.

Grow up.

You sound like a cheater. Hope you're caught and I hope I'm the one that does it. I don't even have a damn car so yes, my list is limited to the 9 DCPS schools we can walk/bus to. Check your privilege, you ignorant ass.

You don't know what you're talking about, and that chip on your shoulder is disfiguring you. In fact, it's putting such a strain on you that you can't think straight any more.

You don't know me. You don't know anything about me. You have no reason to accuse me of any kind of cheating, and even if your bitterness leads you to do so? You are still wrong. Idiot.

I've been part of this education scene longer than you have, and I know how it works. There WILL be free seats in some schools. If you don't want them, fine - don't take them. Pay for something closer. Until a few years ago, entitled asses such as yourself hadn't yet decided that the world owed them free childcare from birth until college (and how long before you want that for free, too?). (Actually, you had decided you were entitled to everything you ever wanted, you just hadn't gotten to check off that box, yet.)

If I'm an "ass" that's your jealousy and bitterness talking, because I'm anything but. I'm well-informed on the topic, in fact I've already forgotten more than you yet know. That's why I feel so free to school you, you entitled, whiny, blubbering fool.

Go back to your corner and count to ten.

As a person, who follows rules because they generally help with a civilized society, I never pat myself on the back and call myself a "rule follower," because that would make me feel like a prig. I also assume everyone wants the best, and is doing their best. I find not second guessing my neighbors, or worrying about the motes in their eyes makes life much more rewarding.

It seems that the drive from her kid's DCPS school back to Landover is really stressing her out, not to mention having to lay low around the school so that no one catches her residence scamming.

I've worked in a number of Third World countries, and must say that the attitude in certain quarters of DC and environs about skimming, scamming and fraud are very much Third World in outlook.

I drop my son off and pick him up at a charter in NW DC and I have only seen a kid getting out of a car with Maryland plates once in two years.

They don't.
