Residency Fraud

Anonymous
I drive my child to a charter school every day and I would like to know why EVERY child being dropped off with MD plates is AA and the car/SUV is a lot fancier than my car. There were 4 this morning. I am not the type to report, but I am getting very tired of people taking advantage of the utter incompetence of our public officials.

DC schools are flush with money, so trying to consistently chase mostly middle to low income, mostly minority parents is not worth it economically. I recall seeing an internal report that notes that pursing these offenders generally costs more than what they would even collect in penalties/taxes, if they even collect it at all.

Shit, you have DC employees themselves doing it. Is it fair to young white families that now occupy various quadrants of DC? No. But its also unfair that living in the city that the city has become unaffordable for many, and many have been displaced by greedy landlords and developers. Is it legal, no. But life is not fair. So get over it.

Since many of you seem like go getters, maybe you could create your own residency fraud parent task force. Then you could gather evidence and put together your own cases to present to the city. That would be a great use of your time instead of wasting your energy posting the same shit on multiple threads.

This!

Actually, NOT this. People who commute from MD for DC jobs who are stealing pre-K spots from DC residents overwhelming are NOT low income but are relatively affluent by every definition and just want to use DC's full day preK to save cash for conveniences like summer vacations.

BTW, summer school is also free and available to all DCPS students -- so that's also free summer camp for those who commit residency fraud .

AS for cost, DCPS has the biggest funding of any school system in the nation. DCPS can afford to police itself.

I'm "relatively affluent", but I SAH and can't afford to send my kid to ANY private, even half day 2 days a week if we don't get in somewhere. So people committing fraud infuriate me. We made our choices (many of which centered around being able to stay in the city in our neighborhood) and understand we can't take free pre-K for granted, but when somebody with multiple properties who can currently afford to have their kid in full time daycare takes a slot we could've had? Yeah, I'm pissed.

Watch your language and get a grip. There are always open spots - even for PS/PK. Always. Your problem is that free isn't good enough for you, you also want it to be walking or a 5 minute drive from your house. So, get a grip, check your privilege, and either drive to the closest free PK (because there will be more than one) or else get a crowbar and jimmy open your wallet, and pay for what you want within a walking warm latte distance from your home.

Grow up.

You sound like a cheater. Hope you're caught and I hope I'm the one that does it. I don't even have a damn car so yes, my list is limited to the 9 DCPS schools we can walk/bus to. Check your privilege, you ignorant ass.

Can we please get off the license plate thing? That's not the only reason people think others are cheating.

What the hell does being AA have to do with it?

PP here -- I don't know! I am yet to ever see a non-AA family dropping off children with MD (or VA) plates.

NP here. It doesn't, or it shouldn't. The "living in Maryland" part is the relevant detail.

Nearly every day, I watch a few very expensive cars with Sela bumper stickers, or the one with just a Hebrew bumper sticker drop off and pick up by the school. The people inside are white.

You know what I think about that?

Absolutely nothing, because I assume the school vets residency and someone's familial/custody/car ownership arrangement is none of my fucking business

Sadly, however, this city we have moved to seems to be full of a bunch of prissy, whiny, self-righteous pearl clutchers, who are outraged! that someone might (with no actual proof) be cheating them out of something.

We moved here with a pretty open mind--that has changed. Now, most of you disgust me.

Again, this has nothing to do with license plate. OP said s/he knows this person is cheating for other reasons.

Explain this to me - if DC public and charter schools are so shitty, as so many of you are willing to point out, why would anyone from Montgomery county or Arlington want to haul their kids all the way to DC every day to go there? Or do you just assume that people are all from PG county?

I drop my son off and pick him up at a charter in NW DC and I have only seen a kid getting out of a car with Maryland plates once in two years.

Then why doesn't she report it and go on with her life? Why is she whining about it here?

Florida tags, hmm. So at a minimum you're violating DC law and committing insurance fraud. Perhaps you're also falsely using a Florida address to evade state income taxes.

Schools are funded by property taxes. I own a home in DC, and I pay my taxes. Hmm that. DC car registration is what, roughly $100-200 for two years. You cheat DC government out of more than that every year you lie on your taxes.

You do sound like someone from Florida. Or the ghetto. But, I repeat myself.

Haha, the ghetto. In your dreams.

You haven't been paying attention.

public ps3 and preK 4 is ONLY offered in the District. Cannot be had at any price in MoCo or Arlington. Free public preschool is generally adequate and never shitty.

The horrid behavior problems that could manifest later aren't present in 38 month old children. So, parents who are price-sensitive are willing to take that public opportunity in order to save $20,000 a year.
