Splurges that are worth it.

1. Good food (not necessarily organic, but easy and healthy)
2. Audiobooks
3. Fitness classes

These are the three things I let myself spend money on. Sometimes splurge in other categories (makeup, jewelry, travel) but these three improve my day to day quality of life and take precedence.

People, please shut up about non-GMO food. You are as scientifically clueless as anti-vaxxers. I avoid anything labeled non-GMO because the scientific idiocy of the fear of GMOs annoys me.

Power pressure cooker. Love that thing! Dinner in 15 minutes.

Someone to come in a do the dishes and pack leftovers after our 20 person Thanksgiving dinner. Let's us relax and have family time.

This is basic. I wouldn't call this a splurge. Everyone gets braces these days.

A good accountant and estate planning attorney. The comfort of having a will in place especially when your children are young (guardianships etc.) is priceless.

Oh so that's how you cure cancer.

Do you work in the medical profession, PP?

Curing cancer is what doctors in the US do, but preventing cancer is what all of us should be doing. Eating organic, non-GMO food is an excellent way to reduce your exposure to pesticides. Study after study has linked pesticides to cancer, so by eating organic, non-GMO food, you are reducing your risk of cancer.

Why ridicule someone with common sense, PP?

Non-GMO food often has more pesticides as the plants aren't able to withstand as much. You are often better off eating GMO food if your goal is to reduce pesticide exposure.

-Dogwalker - we sometimes even have a dogwalker come in during the weekends, if we’re going to be away for most of the day (weddings or visiting family). It’s so nice to have that option, so we don’t have to worry about rushing back.
-Artwork – we have lots of original stuff from local artists – oil paintings, framed photos and numbered prints, and pottery. Nothing high end or investment level, but it really makes our house a bit more homey, and makes me smile. I started buying back when I was living in a crappy apartment with housemates (even $100-200 was a huge splurge back then) – I didn’t want to invest in nice furniture that might not fit in the next crappy apartment, but the artwork made the dingy apartment a little bit nicer. Plus, it’s easy to move!

Wearing my new Spanx bra - thanks for the reminder. Also bought some comfortable black boots and good concealer.

Horses. My therapists!

A nice tractor so difficult chores are feasible. Plus, it develops me as a person, trying to get that sticky PTO shaft on again. Who needs a life coach when you have a good John Deere.

LASIK eye surgery. Absolutely life changing- and I don't say this about much. Cleaning service, too.

Oh, I dislike thanksgiving, but this sounds fun. I also love to bake pies. So I show up with pies and to go containers and leave with a bunch of cash. Once a year business, here I come.
