One compelling reason centers need to go

Not PP, but wow, just wow....I don't have a kid at Colvin Run, but I have friends at the school and am well aware of what a toxic environment it has become. I get that your kid's not affected, PP, but how about a little sympathy? After all, the only reason Colvin Run is in this position is that the school's base parents were either in the dark that their school was going to become a dumping ground for AAP spillover in the older grades or didn't whine and lobby as hard to get their way as the parents at Haycock, Louise Archer and some of the surrounding schools in McLean and Vienna.

Colvin Run, like Lemon Road, were losers in the battle to ease overcrowding at Haycock and Louise Archer.
Thankfully, it will be better in 6 months when the 6th graders graduate.
It's hard to be sympathetic towards someone who takes a problem in one grade at one school (which has been corrected in the lower grades, btw) and uses is as a springboard for insisting, 24/7 and in every thread in this forum, that AAP is inherently evil-- when in fact, her experience (while frustrating and a legitimate cause for concern) simply does not reflect what is going on in most AAP Centers. And honestly, some of us are pissed by this poster hijacking every single threat to bitch about issues in CR's 6th grade (and possibly the 6th grades in a couple of other schools, like GBW), making it impossible for people with kids in AAP or applying for AAP to discuss anything else. Now if she started a "why the situation at CR is intolerable" thread to air her grievances, I don't think anyone would have a problem.
Exactly. She doesn't limit it to complaining that the size of the AAP program at CR has a negative impact on Gen Ed students at that school. She blasts the AAP program, AAP students, and AAP parents generally and, in doing so on virtually every thread over such a long period, comes across as more self-absorbed than any AAP parent, even the ones crowding about their "profoundly gifted" children.

+100. I find is particularly distasteful that this PP has suck mean spirited things about AAP kids. I can see insulting the program, or the parents, who are at least adults. But is it really necessary to be so mean spirited about ES aged kids, who were probably not given a real choice in the matter? That's were it crosses a line for me.

^^ said such, not suck

Yeah, not for kids in the current 6th grade class who now get to continue to middle school with this same dynamic.

Thank you, PP. You've nailed it.

The remark about the dads wasn't to imply that you're sexist, just that you're a simpleton for assuming there's only one CR poster here. Get a clue. Not everyone lives in your strange little AAP fantasy world.

Why would the dynamic in MS be the same? Lots more GE kids feeding in from the bases that feed CR. Especially if FCPS Goes forward with the plan to make Cooper a MS Center, and relieve some of the kids at Longfellow? And don't some of the CR kids feed to Kilmer anyway?

Because it's just the one poster with that POV. Riiiiiight... Do you realize how idiotic you sound, ranting over and over that only one particular person is posting about the situation at CR?? I'm only one of those posters and I know for a fact there are others. :
Wishful thinking on your part I guess.

Nobody said that there is only one CR 6th grade parent with issues (but let's face it, if there are only 2 6th grade GE classes, so about 60 kids, how many 6th grade GE parents are actively posting in the AAP forum on DCUM? Not hundreds). Just that their was one CR mom who has used the issues at that school in that grade as an excuse to spew hate about the AAP program at all schools, all AAP parents and all AAP kids, and hijack all of the AAP threads on this forum, without recognizing that the problems in the 6th grade at CR just are not typical. She comes across as unhinged because of the volume of her postings and her incredible bitterness, most of which is irrelevant to the topic being discussed. I think people are giving the other CR posters the benefit of the doubt, because they believe you understand what is happening at CR in the 6th grade, while bad, is not normal.

At most middle schools in the county, there will be about 20% in AAP, 80% gen ed. There are exception. For example, Luther Jackson is about 50% AAP, but that is because they are the only center that serves Madison, and possibly Oakton. When they finish the renovations at thoreau, The madison students will probably go to Thoreau.

Here is the problem: you, the sanctimonious one, are failing to look at the big picture. THIS IS TEMPORARY. The Louise Archer kids that made AAP so big at CR will not be at the same middle school; they will go to Luther Jackson, Thoreau or Kilmer.

As for your attitude, your selfishness truly amazes me. I mean, you chose to live in Colvin Run, which has been an AAP center for quite a while (maybe since it was built?).

Because your brat, I mean snowflake did not get in to AAP, you want to torch a system that works. Maybe the problem is your kid

Thank you for demonstrating just how ugly and self-serving the typical AAP parent is. Wow.

In summary, CR 6th grade =\= most classes at most Centers. Your problems are specific to your grade at your school, and just don't translate to the vast majority of the AAP program.

Not the PP, but really? Because the crazy CR mom has called AAP parents selfish, and said that AAP kids are snowflakes, brats, and all that is wrong with the AAP system. Pretty much on every thread on a daily basis. Most AAP posters are just too restrained/ nice to fight back, or say what we are all thinking, which is that you think your child should have been selected for AAP, are are pissed that s/he was not. Otherwise, you would confine your posts to the issues at your school-- in relevant threads, rather than attacking everything and everyone associated with AAP in every thread. And really, people who act like this take a lot of sympathy away from your legitimate concerns about legitimate problems, like the situation in the 6th grade at CR.

Yes, most of Colvin Run is zoned for Cooper/Langley, and those AAP kids go to Kilmer, which is currently 36% AAP. The rest go to Longfellow (currently 40% AAP) either way. The percentage of AAP students will go down at both Kilmer and Longfellow when Cooper becomes the AAP option in the Langley pyramid in a year or two, putting aside the spike for the current 6th grade class.
