Schools cause PoP to leave Petworth

Not a brave toughguy forum like this, where you can learn about why every road in Upper NW should be widened for the benefit of Marylanders, why Trinidad is a place no one cared about their kids would live, and why real estate in Pimmit Hills is so hot. Tough guys read about Pimmit Hills and the best SUVs to buy, milquetoasts read about biking and the best deals on houses in, well, Trinidad.

This forum doesn't censor people when they criticize ninny's for pearly clutching. That one does.

Every first child has their best chance for charter admission at PK3. Then, if the child didn't get in anywhere, or anywhere acceptable, pay for day care another year and try it again. There's no guarantee for PK4 even at a WOTP school. seems like such an uninformed decision.

You're assuming he wanted a charter.

Buying 12 years ago, he probably made a killing from selling his home. Petworth prices are insane --not sure why people are buying when school aren't great.

Not to mention - they are all the exact same house. The trendiness of Petworth makes no sense, so it's probably all for the best if the "Prince" has abdicated.

No-one is assuming, that was obvious. He didn't get the highly-desired charter, so he sold his house to get the next best thing: DCPS in Upper NW.

Why do we have to pretend there isn't an elephant in the room?

This is an eye-opening read for me. I commented on the PoP post about his decision to move, simply suggesting that if I were in his position I'd go a step further and move either to North Arlington or Bethesda because he's essentially moving to the suburbs for schools and the schools in North Arlington and Bethesda are better, especially after elementary schools. Others may disagree, but this is hardly a rude or acerbic observation.

He deleted the post.

Now I understand why every comment on his post about moving was so supportive . . . really pathetic, if you ask me. He lost this reader.

Wow, I had not realized DS deleted comments. That's lame. What's the point of a blog then.

To promote your own POV?
Except he doesn't want to be called out on the fact that his narrow POV has changed and he is ditching the "edgy" area he wrote about and promoted. He would've retained more credibility if decided to move to SS, or some other East MoCo area. It's cheaper too.
Coward.

seriously, stfu. First of all, you're white yourself. Thus, it's weird to keep using the played-out pejorative with the word "caucasian" in it.

And, why don't you understand yet that a very sizable cohort in non-rowhouse-land DC was once a bwave, chest-thumping kid like yourself -- when they first moved to DC themselves as unmarried 20-somethings?

Welcome to mature adulthood, dad PoP

Hey at least he didn't squat for PK3 and PK4 and then leave. That churn results in a mix of TOTM (or other program) - prepped kids READY for K w/a bunch of kids that went to free DCPS daycare (From the dodgy providers DC pays for some awful reason) who, by and large, are not ready for any kind of formal learning.

Maybe the family that takes their spot will be more rooted.

Seriously, if you're white yourself, then you clearly don't see the true irony in the picture before you. I mean, go take a look at "PoPville," if you haven't already. My description accurately described its Milquetoastity. Or, if you're not white, then I guess I can't blame you for telling me to "stfu," as all white people probably deserve it; but then you couldn't truly understand how sad/amusing the entire episode is, from a VERY long-time (white person) resident's perspective, either.

While I don't support deleting you are wrong about better schools. If you look at testing white kids in DC test higher. Say what you want but the testing data proves your point wrong. Now if he weren't white this would be a different issue.....

This was my first thought as well and I don't blame him one bit if it's the real reason.

+1. Nothing else matters when it comes to the safety and well-being of one's kids. I say forget the haters, and good for him.

why do car-less rowhouse dwellers persist with this baloney? Does it threaten your own authentic bonafides to accept that a lot of Red Line Ward 3 is as close to downtown as Petworth is, with far more walkable commerce and -- because of apartments -- greater population density?

Or maybe you guys have just never left your neighborhood. That is also possible.
