AP vs IB

Over 520 in 2013. However, it's a poor analogy as the requirements are more demanding than for an IB diploma (you have to take more exams and to do better on them) and it's not the only level of achievement recognized by the College Board. The College Board also recognizes AP Scholars, Scholars with Honor, and Scholars with Distinction, in addition to National AP Scholars, and you can be recognized before you graduate.

How many of those were at TJ?

What are the six classes?

What are the six classes?

The six subject groups are:
•Studies in language and literature
•Language acquisition
•Individuals and societies
•Sciences.
•Mathematics
•The arts.

I found them. Do you think it's a turn off to have to study foreign language and the arts at an IB level in order to get the diploma? These aren't popular AP subjects.

In 2013, 187 of the 523 National AP Scholars were from TJ, and 1127 of the total 6502 AP-recognized students were from TJ, followed by McLean (499), Langley (488), Woodson (463) Oakton (418) and Madison (413). FCPS has not published similar information for 2014.

Who says? On average, more AP language exams are taken at AP schools than IB language exams are taken at IB schools.

A second IB course in another category can be substituted for the arts course. My dd is using IB social anthropology to fulfill that requirement

If you have any concern about IB not focusing on STEM, read this
"Marshall High School students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Engineering and International Baccalaureate (IB) Design Technology classes have been participating in an Enabling the Future project, printing three dimensional (3-D) prosthetic hands for refugees around the world who have been disfigured by war. Marshall High School is a Fairfax County public school."

Conversely, AP schools dominated at the recent state journalism awards. McLean had nine, TJ had six, and Chantilly and Hayfield each received four.

And the Annandale High School newspaper won first place in the Best in Show competition. (Annandale HS is an IB school.)

Congratulations to all those schools, and to Annandale. The A-Blast has a long tradition of excellence, and it's nice to see that it's been carried forward over the years.

I think this is the result of Marshall and Chantilly having STEM academy programs though, no? Not as much because of IB. The STEM academy is new. Have they been participating in an enabling the future project for many years?

There are multiple award venues, but some schools repeatedly seem to win student journalism awards, including TJ, McLean and Chantilly.
