What bathroom renos done today will stand the style test of time? How about mine?

Minus that horrible stripe thing, that's beautiful. But it's because of the soft cream colors (cabinets, floors, walks), the gorgeous marble, and super cabinets. That marble probably makes this an $80k bathroom. As a subway tile person, I'm there because a completely marble shower is out of my reach. What about showing something comparable in price that you like?

Let's say that photo had wood floors and the shower (such a small piece of the room and not what is the wow) was soft cream tasteful handmade subway tile. It'd still be beautiful. Agree that the floors and wall color and cabinets are the wow here. $$$$$$$

There isn't any such thing as timeless in home decor, especially in the age of houzz, hgtv, etc. . do you you mean historical? If you like subway tile, go for it, just know that you are using it at a time when it is trendy, and there will come a time in the next few years when the trend ends.

The rest of the bathroom is nice and looks fine, but isn't really what I'd pick myself.

I agree, my point is that it's neutral and timeless in a sense both sides of the Spectrum will like it without it being a deal breaker.

Agree that this is about as timeless as you can get. (absent the awful stripe). I dislike subway tile and prefer a whiter bath. If this were just a lighter marble it would be just as gorgeous and timeless.

I agree. Those are beautiful, but even if I could spend that kind of money on a bathroom remodel, it would look absurd in my 1953 rambler.

The handmade white subway tile we ordered from Architectural Ceramics was definitely NOT cheap. That being said, I'd much rather have the cheap white subway tiles found in subways than any brown or beige travertine.

Just a complete rip off. "very special" cheap subway tiles. Only you know the difference.

That marble bathroom is ostentatious to the point of being tacky. It looks like something Donald Trump would put in his penthouse. And I like marble in limited doses.

+1. A Saudi prince's bathroom.

Wait a second everyone. Doesn't the answer depend on what type the house you have? For example, I wouldn't put a marble bathroom in a contemporary house.

I think it's possible to use marble in a more contemporary way although the room's other elements (e.g. the sinks in the pic below) will have a strong impact on how timeless the look is. I would argue that even the marble bathroom above is less than timeless due to the cabinetry, which looks more early 2000s than 2014.

See that last one looks dated to me already by just a few years.

Looks like a restaurant or bank bathroom to me. No thanks.

You can't pass judgement unless you have the same amount of money to budget a bathroom of this caliber. I doubt the saudi prince will put 50s retro subway tiles in their bathroom. Once you reach a certain budget or house value you will need to put in high end materials and subway tiles is not high end. It's like trying to say that a silver sterling ring is better than the pure platinum one.

If you're going to do a bathroom with a lot of marble, to me, this is a more tasteful look that would have been plenty high-end enough for that McLean house with the "Saudi prince" look.
