b) If only x embryos can be transferred, then what happens to those that are not implanted? Must the parents pay for them to be stored even if they wanted all implanted? What happens if they do not pay the storage bills? Are the embryos put up for adoption? Are they destroyed? Are they donated to research?

During my IVF procedure (29 y/o- double embryo transfer- twin pregnancy) my partner and I had to fill out paperwork regarding what to do with the other resulting embryos. At the moment they remain on ice, with us paying a storage fee. We have the option to have them destroyed, used for research, or donating them to someone who is infertile. We chose to freeze for the moment, while we weigh the options. I would prefer to have them used for embryonic stem cell research.

The doctors that did this should be striped of their medical lic. This is a complete joke, a women with 6 children should not be give fertility treatment peroid. Another question, who paid for this, records show she was on disability for the last several years!

she is negotiating interviews and a reality show now.

It's socially and medically irresponsible and unethical, in my opinion. I don't know what that doctor was thinking. Those poor kids.

She has blocked tubes so she has no chance of conceiving naturally. So for her, fertility treatment is what having sex is for most other people.
So I imagine you propose that all woman should be sterilized after having 6 kids? Or just those who live with their parents and are on disability? Or is it just infertile women who should have their reproductive rights dictated by others? Or just poor infertile women? Or maybe just single women?
I'm curious how you would write this policy.

Nadia S. is being interviewed this morning by the Today Show's Ann Curry (of course). OMG. The more I learn about this woman, the less I like her and everyone around her (including the fertility doc) who has helped enable her bizarre and irresponsible behavior and the more I worry about all those kids.

She is NOT thinking rationally if she thinks she can manage, emotionally and financially, 14 children more or less by herself--she is not married and says the donor dad is "overwhelmed" (a serious understatement I'll bet)--especially as she plans to go back to school! She'll be relying on her parents, friends and her church to help her, but at the end of the day these children our hers--what the hell was she thinking??!

Whoops--meant "at the end of the day these children ARE hers"--sorry!

I think she is a baby collector. When this happens with dogs and cats, the SPCA takes them all away, too bad it's not an option here.

She said that being an only child has left her with a feeling that she was missing something, and only lots of children would be able to fill that void. She also said that she had tried getting pregnant for 7 years before going in for fertility treatments, this would mean that she started trying to get pregnant as a teenager. I can only assume that she felt lacked love and wished to have children, because she wanted to be loved unconditionally, and the seven years she tried and failed, the more obsessed she became.

She also said she was implanted with six embryos and two separated into twins.

Why can't some people just get a dog or a cat and be happy with that.

Ellen Goodman, a notably liberal columnist, writes about this situation today. Her conclusion is that there should be some limits. Currently there are none. I, also notably liberal, agree with her. Here's the column:

Did you see her talking to Ann Curry in the "teaser" for the full interview on Monday? Looks like she's had too much of something injected into her lips for her media tour...

I agree, I thought she looked like she had a little work done.

She has psychiatric issues..get social services involved...arrest those Dr's who did this...gross malpractice...glorifying single motherhood...what a shame

from the interview ... I thought it was interesting that she said unequivocally her childhood sucked ("was pretty dysfunctional"). So now that she has borne a dormitory worth of kids, she leans on those dysfunctional parents to raise them, pay for them, get them to the bus, etc.

i believed it is too much john and kate plus 8 these people are watching. leave it for people who don't have any kids, if you had 2 i could understand but 6 no i hope you can care for them equally
