What should Israel do with Gaza?

In such circumstances, an Israeli response on the position will only harm innocents. Looking at the photographs that the IDF released to show rockets being fired from schools and hospitals, those actually showed the rockets were outside the grounds of those buildings. If Israel attacked the buildings -- and I don't know if they did in those cases -- they attacked the wrong targets. If the buildings were significantly damaged in an attack on the rocket site, the Israelis chose the wrong weapon. I don't see any justification for knocking down and entire apartment building because a rocket was fired from the ally behind it.

I have no idea what happened with the UN school today. The UN has found rockets stored in two empty schools. This school was not empty and UN officials were on site. Since the UN has shown its willingness to reveal rockets hidden in schools, the Israelis should have trusted the UN to alert it to rockets. If the Israelis believed there were rockets or fighters there, UN officials should have been asked to investigate and report on it. There is no justification for attacking a school full of children, particularly in this case in which a party with a track record of opposing weapons in schools was on the ground.

Omg, I agree wholeheartedly with this.
Even if this entire school was full of hidden rockets, you don't bomb a school of children and refugees, especially after you had told them to go there for shelter!!!

45 hours prior the UN distributed 400 meals at this school to children and their families that had just arrived there from other parts of Gaza, apparently per the Israeli warning to evacuate their homes. 45 hours ago, there were photos of smiling children with their meals in hand at that school, presumably a little reprieve from the prior days perhaps feeling safe.

I know, I know, Hamas is hiding behind children. But what are these families supposed to do?
They have nowhere to go. The borders are closed.
And you know what, if there were rockets at that school, I bet they are still there, unharmed!
But the civilians are dead and wounded.

Years later people will look back on this and note this was when Israel sealed its fate. Simply put, there are generations of people around the globe, once neutral, who now strongly believe the Jewish State has forfeited its right to exist. Either there should be one state in which Palestinians have equal rights or the Jews should be forced to leave. The status quo of apartheid and repression bas been laid bare. Whatever our feckless President has to say on the topic is irrelevant.

just watched the cnn story and am shaking after seeing these tiny children in pain. ISRAEL!! WHat are you getting out of this that is worth this pain and brutality you are inflicting!! What??

I don't care about the peace process. If I was that father whose children were blown to bits on the playground before his eyes, I would never forget and forgive, NEVER.

I trust what the IDF says, about as much as I trust what Russia says.

Every American President from Eisenhower to Obama has been feckless where Israel is concerned. It befuddles the mind.

I agree. It will just keep getting worse for Israel and eventually the 2 million american jews will not be able to support Israel or will just decide to flee Israel and stay in america permanently when push comes to shove.

I think since violence has not worked Israel should buy the peace. How many palestinians are there?

They should evacuate all zionists from 100 miles outside of gaza and west bank, stop the settlements, and then sell the land back to palestinans and build schools and finance small businesses. Control the immigration to these new palestinian settlement, and keep a strict control on the actual border but have a second border inline. Then after paying off these palestinians they should periodically shrink the border and absorb more and more of gaza/west bank and eventually become one democratic state.

peace will exist. Zionists can remain in palestine.

They have enough money. Stop spending on weapons and buy the peace.

Pay off the palestinians with money and land rather than bombs.

This is along the lines of what a peace agreement will ultimately have to deal with: Israel will have to acknowledge compensation to the Palestinians and the Arab world will have to acknowledge compensation for all the Jews who were abused and chased out of Iraq, Egypt, Syria, etc and who had their property stolen by Arabs. Their both sides can accept a compromise and Israelis and Palestinians can get on as well as Indians and Pakistanis do today....partition is a tough business

You do know don't you that most of the actions taken against Jews in Arab countries post 1948 were instigated by Israeli agents? They were trying to build up the Jewish population in Israel by having Arab Jews immigrate there. Quite a bit has been written about this.

What happened to Jews in the Arab countries was a terrible thing but what does this have to do with Palestinians? Why must they be responsible for what other Arabs did elsewhere? Arabs are not one monolithic block. Neither are Jews, for that matter. Why should the Palestinian resolution hinge upon satisfaction of Jewish claims against other states?

Arab states should acknowledge the expulsion of Jews because it's the right thing to do, not for anything Palestinian.
