If you could live anywhere in MOCO, where would you send your kids?

OK, why don't you snip the relevant section of Starr's contract, where it talks about a special car/Popemobile, and post it here with a link. Nobody here is doing your work for you. You made the stupid-sounding statement, so you get to prove you're not as stupid as we think.

And the TV show -- do you mean when he appears on the local public access TV station? Or perhaps you mean the little TV studio-type things that many middle and high schools in MoCo have. Yup, my kid's MoCo middle school has a daily TV show, produced by the kids, with the school's news for the day, and us parents can even watch it on the school's website. Tiny production budget and low production values. Is this what you want us to think is on par with CNN or Fox?

Ignorance is bliss. MCPS trolls are stupid to the core and too lazy to do their own work. Need I say more.

Here is more about Starr ... http://themorechild.com/2011/04/25/buh-bye-jerry-hello-josh/.

http://www.wjla.com/articles/2011/05/montgomery-county-board-of-education-approves-starr-as-new-superintendent-60461.html

The board also approved Starr's employment contract, which includes a salary of $250,000 per year and $35,000 in deferred compensation, as well as a contribution of $18,750 toward his retirement. Starr also will receive other benefits including health, disability and life insurance, moving expenses and the use of a vehicle.

LOL! Nothing, but nothing, to support your wild claims about a special car, security deal, popemobile, or TV show. Only that he gets "use of a vehicle." In other words, nothing in here to prove that you aren't a bloviating Fox News zombie.

I'm no big fan of Starr. But unlike you, I know that to make your opposition sound credible, you need to start with actual facts.

I guess I am not liberal enough for you MoCo extremists. Get off your lazy entitled behinds and read the contract (the link is in the article). No wonder MoCo is going downhill with you bloated entitlement types.

Get off YOUR lazy conservative behind and cut & paste the relevant part that refers to Starr's popemobile. Oh right, you lied about that. No, I'm not wading through some contract because some obnoxious conservative on DCUM tells me to. Prove your own point for us, moron.

Otherwise, we'll have to conclude that ... you lied. Again. Like your lie about voting for Obama.

Reading this thread makes me realize what liberalism in MoCo has come to mean. Jeez people don't call yourselves liberals or Obama supporters. You are doing both those blocks no favors.

Starr doesn't have a take home vehicle. He may have one assigned to him for exclusive use during business hours. While he's not my favorite person at the moment, I wouldn't beat him up for this. It's standard practice for most department heads.

Surprise, many of us "liberals" think Starr and MCPS are going in the wrong direction too. We don't need you to educate us.

What a few of us HAVE asked you for is proof for your stupid claim that Starr drives around in a popemobile/has a security detail. Show us the money. Show us you don't just make cr@p up. Come on.... We're waiting....

What has conservatism come to? DCUM conservatives are making stuff up out of thin air, like this popemobile thing that two of them have referred to. Fox News makes stuff up out of thin air too.

Is conservatism now all about lying?

How can you talk abt soc. jtce. when you ear 1/4 million and send kids to the schools in the wealthy part of montgomery?

I just read that the head of Landon makes ~800K a year. 250K is a paltry salary for someone who is in charge of a 2 BILLION dollar budget.

The Landon guy doesn't go around preaching social justice. If you talk the talk then walk the walk Where did you read about the guy making 800K??

What does preaching social justice have to do w/ 250K being a low salary for someone running an organization with a budget north of 2 billion dollars?

Yes.

Conservatism = lying your a$$ off

On this thread, at least. My Republican dad is probably rolling over in his grave to see what the party has come to.

Reading the stuff you folks write makes me sure think of becoming a conservative.

Folks, all this acrimony has probably chased OP from further considering moving to MOCO. Seriously, who would want us as neighbors?

I'm not this poster, but I totally agree with the sentiments. There's a libertarian on here simply making up lies about popemobiles, security guards, and the rest. If OP is looking at MoCo, she needs to know that she should disregard half of what the libertarian has posted on this thread.

Anonymous wrote:This thread seems to have been overtaken by the very prolific poster who hates MCPS and Curriculum 2.0. If this board is any gauge, parents who believe their kids to be "advanced" are the most aggrieved; apparently now little Ava who was taught to read at 3yo and Jack who was redshirted so that he would sit perfectly still in K won't be able to take those calculus classes in grade 2.

Personally, I don't really get it, personally, as the parent of a child whose entry to MCPS coincided with the adoption of 2.0. Maybe what preceded it was better, I don't know. But my child has had a first-rate experience with terrific teachers in MCPS so far. My sense is that my child's classmates and their families were reasonably satisfied too, and most of them appear to have the resources to avail themselves of other options. No knocks on HoCo, I'm sure that's lovely too, but no family with working parents would happily choose a 2 hour commute over a 25 minute one, particularly when the short commute comes with some of the best rated schools in the country.

Make up your own mind.

I notice the desire to pigeonhole posters by labeling them as libertarians or conservatives. The intolerance is breathtakingly sad. I see no reason for the OP to read the details of Starr's contract and his history to decide the direction in which MCPS is heading. Frankly, I took the popemobile comment as sarcasm.

I am appalled that DCUM poster are intent on discouraging those who advocate informed choice.

Let the OP decide if the new Curriculum 2 is good for her children. Let OP decide if the elimination of advanced classes in middle school is good for her. Let OP read and decide. Why do we want to discourage informed choice?

MOCO is not full of name calling liberals. There are those of us who care about each other and respect diverse opinions. MOCO has some good people.

Informed choice is a great thing. But when you have posters making up nonsense about popemobilies and security details, and posting this nonsense as fact (because it wasn't posted as a joke), then "informed choice" doesn't work and OP will be misled.

OP needs to be aware, as at least one other poster and maybe two others besides me have pointed out, that there's a prolific right-wing poster on the MCPS board. Some her posts are flat-out lies, like the popemobile. And some are conservatively-formed opinions, like her frequent posts that teachers are uneducated and overpaid slackers, teacher unions are responsible for every ill in the county, et cetera.

Signed, another poster who doesn't like Starr and who has no connection to MCPS besides sending my kids there (unlike the popemobile poster who is in Howard or sends her kids to private, I can't follow)
