OP here. Yes, we did mention close in, so Poolsville is out. And we actually do want a diverse community. We would be adding to the diversity

I am not the OP. I would like to restate the question without qualifications: If you could live in MoCo really ANYWHERE, which school zones would you choose? Our finances allow us to come up with the average price for a home.

PP here (21:54 - I love the European time format on this forum, btw! I would like to supplement my previous question with the information that we are interested in a French immersion program (preferably from K through 12).

I'd choose Kensington over Bethedsa and Chevy Chase. Much more laid back and less pretentious feeling. SilverSpring has some great options. Many on DCUM are scared of SS schools, but there are some great schools in SS that I would send children to. I currently live in Kensington and sometimes wish we had chosen SS because we have many events there who are really happy.

PP, if you want French immersion in MCPS, your choices are Sligo Creek in SS and Maryvale in Rockville, provided you get in via a VERY competitive lottery. If you get in, you can live anywhere.

Poolesville cluster. Elementary schools are Poolesville or Monocacy, middle school is John Poole, and the high school is Poolesville. The high school has two magnet programs. The town is nearly crime free, small town atmosphere, everyone knows everyone else, kids ride their bikes everywhere, including the county pool which is in town. Surrounding rural area is priceless. Its in the Agricultural Reserve which means no houses can be built on property less than 25 acres. Close to the river and C&O canal. Many people think its "far out" but in fact Poolesville is only 11 miles to Quince Orchard.

Poolesville sounds awesome, but do you seriously consider it not "far out." That commute to downtown DC everyday would be hell! Now if I worked in Rockville or farther north or west, then that would be another story.

Many people use the MARC train at Barnesville. Its not that far to the Shady Grove Metro which is another choice. Also forgot to add that Poolesville High was ranked 4th in the state by that latest ranking (forgot whose it was).

This is the cluster we're in. Can't beat the location for convenience, schools are excellent, and more affordable than closer in.

My only gripe is that it's sort of a hodge podge of neighborhoods without a true community feel. But this is true of most of the Washington suburbs, so what can you do?
