If you could live anywhere in MOCO, where would you send your kids?

These are all a ten-minute walk from the shops, library, etc.

Schools are good too (IMO).

God, that one on Dale Drive... I'd buy it today if I could. So nice and for just $550K.

Dale is fairly busy, just so you know. But the houses usually have good yards and if you're on the right side of Dale, your yard may be on Nolte Park.

I would recommend close-in Kensington or North Chevy Chase if you could up your budget to $700k - those are lovely and generally pretty happy places to live and we love the BCC district. For $600k you might find something in Rock Creek Forest or the neighborhood immediately surrounding Rosemary Hills if you want BCC schools, but even in these neighborhoods you may be outpriced. I'd recommend spending a lot of time checking out different neighborhoods - online for price ranges, and then in person for a sense of the place. Your post sounds as though you don't have much of a sense of what the close-in suburbs are like: for example saying that you don't need a "great" house - only 3BR plus basement and yard on a quiet street - you will come to realize that what you're expecting costs a lot if you want to find it within a few minutes of the city.

You're right. 14 years in DC, but rarely ever across the District line, so we have a bit of exploring to do (hence this post). That said, I got over sticker shock a long time ago when I bought in the city.

Thank goodness. It would be nice to know that the neighbourhood school is both good and ours.

Looks nice. Would not have thought to look behind the Spaceship

Huh?

I think this is reference to the Mormon Temple by Rock Creek Park.

God forbid that anyone mention Poolesville or Damascus. Great schools, no crime, hardly any minorities. Just great places to live.

To me, these are contradictory statements.

Also, OP specified "close-in." Poolesville and Damascus are anything but close-in.

So is Takoma Park. Doesn't stop CSX from moving nuclear waste through on trains, though.

Brookeville is not close-in.

Good one. CSX does not move nuclear waste through Takoma Park or anywhere near there. Where did you hear that one?
