I actually do believe VT wait lists some very high stat kids if they don't apply ED ( Which they stopped ) as a way to yield protect OR give the spot to someone who really wants and needs it. If that it turns out the high stats wait listed kid really does want or need the spot, they will be pulled off the wait-list first.
I only have anecdotal evidence of this, no proof. I know VT appreciates economic diversity and first generation kids. They are a public U and are here for the to educate the students and benefit the community |
They don't. We've covered this. I understand the bruised egos that cause people to say things like this, but it's not true. |
| In from OOS -MCPS. Marketing major, 3.8 UW, 4.6 weighted, test optional. |
|
My colleague came to us fresh from VT admissions. They do not yield protect.
They are not great at predicting yield, so do tend to waitlist. It is easier to get in from OOS (yield tends to be low) than in state (yield is strong). |
Would you say the same about UVA? VT is incredibly competitive now. |
You would take WM over VT for engineering? Mkay. |
|
We are in with 3.9 uw gpa 4.44 w gpa 1490 SAT for science school.
No mention of honors school or any merit. Is it going to come later like other schools VCU/pitt. Or just be happy in state acceptance to good school? |
What school/major did they apply to tho? DS got in and his stats aren’t awesome |
VT doesn't really give merit aid. You can apply for some selective scholarships. |
Don’t think so IB analysis HL covers most of it-but just to be safe my kid also took AP Calc BC as an ELECTIVE. Has an A in both. |
I actually think that high stat kids that view VT as a safety either aren’t putting in enough effort on the extra questions/essays or their ECs were not community-minded (maybe they were primarily academic. Or sport. VT seems to heavily emphasize community service) Ultimately, we will never know why anyone gets deferred, WL or rejected. So it’s all just conjecture |
You have no idea what the stats of any of these kids are, other than your own - and you also don’t know what else the accepted students brought to the table. Please stop pretending otherwise. DP |
My dd got waitlisted for engineering. 4.22 , 3.95 uw, 1530 SAT, Civil Air Patrol, tons of national and international stem ecs like robotics, high altitude balloon challenge, drone drone competition, etc.
|
Obviously the PP meant 27,000 accepted by VT. |
No. There is one parent whose kid didn’t get in several years ago and they come back every year to relive their bitterness because of course, their kid “deserved” to get in.
