Yeah we don't have a nanny on retainer and not interested in making my parents sleep over all week so like everyone else there is not much we can do besides buy groceries. Not canceling virtual meetings, DC can watch TV if needed. |
Sadly not every DC can watch TV. |
What arrangements are you making? |
Sorry, I didn’t mean to be flippant — I get that this is tough for parents. I still think expecting MCPS to cancel (whatever that means for your preparations — even just bracing yourself) is the thing to do at this point. |
I agree on this. The real question (which I hesitate to ask because it will summon the mean SAHM troll who is obsessed with taunting parents who use school-based childcare) is whether MCPS will allow school-based childcare to open on any of these days if their local area is safe and they're able to get staff in, or whether they force all childcare across the county to be closed all of these days. My guess is definitely no childcare on Monday (many of us were planning to use it on the no-school day) and almost certainly no childcare on Tuesday either. Wednesday is a maybe. Thursday if they do keep schools closed, I think they at least finally let childcares open. |
If they let child care open anywhere it means central office staffers have to work (since it means administrative offices have to open) so I'm guessing they will keep it closed for as long as possible and troll DCUM saying it makes total sense and why don't we care about the providers even though they are begging to be allowed to open. |
So go to private school. It's not MoCo's fault your employer sucks. |
No, the roads were fine. I took the bus. It was ridiculous that MCPS wouldn't even let child care providers decide if they could open. The leadership is completely dismissive of families and acts like the money will keep rolling in with no awareness of where it is coming from. |
| MCPS closed for over a week for the 2003 Presidents Day Snowstorm. Anticipate at least a week. |
That was like 15-30 inches. This is more 8-12. |
What you’re describing is way worse than just snow. Were you around in the 90’s when everything froze over with like six inches of ice? |
It looks like MCPS once experienced Mid-Winter break albeit unplanned! |
The taunting troll is definitely not a SAHM. SAHMs understand not having a nanny or back up at the ready and empathize. It’s more likely a WAHM or a mom with local family or a WAHD or a flexible schedule. |
I was a college student at AU in the mid nineties when DC was encased in ice one holiday weekend. It didn’t melt for a week. There were massive power outages from downed lines. Classes had already been canceled that Monday for the holiday, and were canceled Tuesday-Friday due to the ice. I don’t even remember any snow. The Post published anecdotes about liquor sales to frustrated parents whose young children were home, bouncing off the walls all week. |
Many private schools follow MCPS for closures and delays. |
