This has been explained ad nauseum.

1. There is not a need for another middle school. There is capacity availability in existing middle schools.

2. Despite the feelings of the RIO crowd, Oakton-bound students are not any more special than any other students in FCPS. That seems to be a difficult concept for the RIO group in particular.
Crossfield and Navy Island stay Carson-Western.

I am a Waples Mill mom who finds the commute to Franklin challenging. We are the largest contributor to Oakton in terms of Students going into it!

I have spoken to Oakton Bound Navy ES Moms (excluding those in Franklin Farm), Oakton ES Moms (those not zoned to Madison), Mosaic ES Moms, and Marshall Road Moms (those not zoned for Madison) who I have gotten to see my point, and they agree.

Those Thoreau Zoned Moms have a 10 years remorse for invading Thoreau and cutting into the sanctity of Vienna, and the other Franklin Moms hate it there!

We reject the Crossfield and Navy Island Moms because we find them illegitimate since they live in Herndon, and we don’t need them to be successful as a high school pyramid.

They can move!

Why not request a move to Johnson which is closer to most Waples families than Franklin?

Why would RIO want a new middle school? They might be moving in a few months and that school won’t help their case as it wouldn’t be built for years. This was pitched by a mom in the now deleted Oakton MS thread from Waples Mill. Regardless, most people in the pyramid are happy with their current MS, no one wants to drive further.

RIO does not want a new middle school. They want their kids to go to Franklin with the other Oakton-bound kids from Navy and Waples. If they keep Crossfield at Oakton, that does make sense. I've heard from multiple friends that their kids hated being torn apart from their Carson friends - they ALL went to different high schools. Personally I prefer Crossfield to stay at Carson and go to Western. I would be really disappointed if my younger kids don't get to Carson.

I get that. Carson is a great school and if I was in your shoes I’d probably want to go to Western too to avoid the bus ride. But if Crossfield stays with Oakton just know the two crazies above don’t represent us, we’ve benefited from you being in the pyramid.

If this isn’t a troll, this has to be the craziest post I’ve seen in awhile
No.

I am one of these Mosaic Mothers who lives right next to Oakton, and I believe that while we are closer to Thoreau, we do need our own middle school.

We are different from the Madison/Marshall community at Thoreau, and Oakton ES parents in the Oakton pyramid long agree with this.

So when we met with Waples Mill parents who felt isolated from the rest of franklin, and slightly more aligned with us, and some Navy parents (ones not in Franklin Farm of Chantilly Bound), we learned that Franklin does not bother them entirely, but that having an Oakton exclusive middle school would be a luxury.

Then we showed them why it was necessary, and they got on board.

Yep, you don’t speak for most of us that don’t want to make the drive. Thanks though! Keep those meetings up.

Why would you be disappointed if your younger kids don't go to Carson? Having sent some of my own kids to both Carson and Franklin, I can tell you there is nothing special about Carson over Franklin. They are both good schools and they teach the same curriculum. They are both split feeders and are approximately the same distance from every neighborhood they serve since they are only a mile apart from each other.

Apparently, I missed the memo that your school should have a vibe and only contain those who are like you and live on the same street as you.

If you are a family that is invested in academic competitions, Carson's after school programs are amazing. Franklin does not have the same level of enthusiasm. Carson does a good job academically in the honors and AAP classes, I have heard mixed things about the non-honors classes but I think that is true at every school. Where Carson really shines is the after school programs. The academic clubs are competitive to get into and the students in them tend to do very well. That is probably a big draw for the Navy families, I know a lot of Navy kids are on the Mathcounts team and I have heard the same is true for Science Olympiad.

New poster and I don’t care if someone is double posting, I agree with Mosiac mom. Our school has been ignored in this study. Just like we were ignored for renovations for decades. Our kids go to 4 different middles, some to Thoreau which has 9 elementary schools coming in, and then to 3 HS. A kid can go so many paths if they go to Mosaic or Oakton, it’s ridiculous.

I’ve had kids at both Carson and Franklin - both in AAP curriculum and the vibe is very different. Kids get into trouble at Franklin - vaping etc and there is more drama. Also there is more unrest with administrators- at least at the time. Carson is a much more academic environment and they are much stricter grading which is good imo.

Franklin is a ghetto mess.

That’s the difference between it and Carson!

Thank you.

Oakton Pyramid needs its own middle school and it’s time for the revolution.

There are a few people with some serious mental problems from western Fairfax posting non-stop these days. You don't need your own school. You need your own mental health facility.

Oakton just had a beautiful renovation done.
Lots of kids go to schools that haven't been renovated in decades, and lots of kids go to split feeder middle schools. You Oakton people are so full of yourselves.

There's nothing wrong with Franklin, but we've had a great experience at Carson. Wonderful teachers, great activities, my kids have been really happy. We would love to stay there (especially if my younger kids get some of the same teachers, which is of course not necessarily going to happen).
