When you go to a house party- do you expect home cooked food? Ok with Costco food?

I’d have no idea if it were Costco food unless it were the pizza. And if I knew, I wouldn’t care.

Put it in your own serving bowls. If someone recognizes it, what does that prove beyond them knowing it’s Costco vs your creation? That they eat Costco food, too.

I would be disappointed with Costco food. It’s meh.

I like how people who get mad if a child’s parents don’t order 15 pizzas, vegetable platter, dips, and other food along with , delicious beverages at said child’s birthday party suddenly don’t notice what kind of food is at a party because they are just happy to be there. Better for them still is if the kid pizza comes from Domino’s and adult pizza from a more upscale wood fired pizza joint. But, they’re not judging.

If you have more money get catering takeout from somewhere. Even Whole Foods. Balduccis is better.

Definitely not! Both are terrible. I broke my arm one year and we got catering from Balducci’s. It was horrible. Whole Foods is meh.

You may also want to rethink your friends if they are judging your food.

Ordered some Whole Foods appetizers and sides yesterday and with the exception of the gravy, they were not good. Given that, I might take my chances on Costco.

It can be a bit bland, except for the tortilla soup (according to DW.) Add spices as appropriate.

Costco shrimp cocktail is fire!

Depends on the occasion. For food holidays I’m not coming to whatever you are having if you can’t cook. For lesser holidays serving Costco or whatever is perfectly acceptable and fine; People are coming to enjoy your company.

What are “food holidays”? The only one I can think of is Thanksgiving. We recently hosted a Christmas cocktail party and served Costco’s shrimp and spiral-sliced ham. Both were absolutely delicious, and much, much better than the Wegmans-catered shrimp and roast beef we ordered last year. I also served Ikea meatballs, which got rave reviews as well, in addition to homemade dips, crackers and desserts.

I think the Costco shrimp cocktail is fine. I’d probably make my own cocktail sauce because it’s so much better than jarred stuff. But the shrimp…it’s just steamed and chilled shrimp. Costco can do that just the same as I would but saves a time and mess of peeling, etc. The ham is also something I think Costco would work for. If your serving spiral cut ham, they are nearly all full cooked already. Some people add own glaze and cloves- but it’s not like they are cooking a ham from scratch anyhow. But sauces, dips, meatballs, sides, and pretty much everything else I’d make my own. The carinal sin is if you are tasked with bringing ONE item to a holiday party and you show up with a Costco pie. C‘mon. Someone else is doing all the hostessing, prep, cleaning, etc. the least you can do is show up with someone homemade are from a high quality bakery/cafe.

If you'd eaten my Aunt Alice's homemade pies, you'd be much happier to get a Costco pie.

I prefer Wegman's catering to Costco, but I recognize that it costs more. My last event, however, I had Taco Bamba cater, so...

Christmas, thanksgiving and Easter. Everything else serve whatever but those are the holidays where I need real food and go with the invitation from the best chef (my momma).

How was the Taco Bamba catering? Is it worth the $$$?

Thank you for inviting me! I'm sure whatever you serve will be lovely.

I admit, I’m not a cook, when i have just one other couple over. If I had a long day at work, I’ll buy good takeout chicken cordon bleu and make the sides.- Gauche? I told my husband when we got married that I don’t cook. And - that he should learn to cook.

Costco food at your party, bad? What do you do for a party 10-15 pp? What’s your easy recipe?

Gauche? Speak English.
