They expect you to dive into the bushes or grass to make way for them. None of the schools our kids go to permit the kids to park in the neighboring streets. They need a new parking agreement which at a minimum would require their kids to carpool to take up street parking throughout the entire school day and a school wide tutorial on how to share sidewalks with pedestrian traffic coming the other way.

People? Walking on sidewalks? In a city? I think you must be mistaken

I bought a house next to Dulles and there seems to be a heavy pattern of loud planes overhead.

Yes, none of the traffic, parking or congestions issues could come from the other FOUR private schools in the same tiny area.

Card carrying member of the so-called “Friends of the Field”? I got it.

You’ve made yourself miserable for four years fighting the development of the field and you lost EVERY step of the way. The field will open soon so prepare yourself.

I just looked at the old Friends of the Field petition, which has been floating around for nearly 2 years. 238 people have signed it. The "open the fields" petition that started a few days ago has more than 750. It's clear that most people want to use the field.

It's comical how "Friends of the Field" was created only when Maret purchased/leased the space. Prior to that, nobody was a "Friend of the Field" raising money to help the ECC care for the field or do anything with it. I don't even how you befriend a privately owned empty field. Can I become a friend to my neighbors backyard if they decide to build an ADU or an addition that I oppose?

The other comical thing is that once a group loses and something is built on these empty spaces...most people have like a 6 month attention span where they just go about their lives and you never hear a peep again.

Not these folks. Unrelenting NIMBYism.

I think they started by campaigning against a turf field at Lafayette, and were successful, so they set their sights on the ECC field somehow conflating the differences between public and private land use.

The friends of the field liked what it was before - their own private park for their enjoyment that was maintained by someone else. They didn't want anyone to disturb their back 40.

They also have a cult-like fervor for a neighbor on the anc who they believe is their redeemer of trampled-upon citizen consultation. He’s an ego maniac and the biggest mistake Maret made was trying to play nice. I’m sure they regret the strategy now.

He just penned a note going over all the wrong doings the school has made with the ANC "authorities".... after the school received the COO. Ha. Jokes on you, BS.

Good god, lets not start talking about flight patterns over the Potomac....

Mercy. Jesus save us.

Maret is pleased to announce that Barrett Fields at 5900 Nebraska Avenue will be opening soon, in accordance with the schedule and rules set forth in the Board of Zoning Adjustment's order of approval and through agreement with the ANC.
We welcome neighbors to use the fields on Sundays: 3:30–8:00pm, starting Sunday, October 5. These are the fall hours for community use, which run Labor Day through Thanksgiving. Other times during the week are held for Maret, the Episcopal Center for Children, DCPS, and designated youth sports organizations.
Hours of permitted field use throughout the year, as well as Maret’s athletic schedule, are posted on our website.
As you enjoy the fields during the designated hours, please abide by the following rules:
· No food or drink (other than water) on the fields
· No dogs on the field
· No amplified sounds or noisemakers
· No alcohol on the property
Maret will be hosting Homecoming games at the fields on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. Although Maret will be providing shuttle bus service to the fields on those days, neighbors may observe increased traffic and parking on nearby streets. Maret will have traffic control officers on Nebraska Avenue to assist.
Maret looks forward to sharing our new athletic facility with you.

Sounds like your complaint should be with the city who needs to enforce the zone parking restrictions and with parents who live in Ward 3 and are instead using those passes for their kids to park near school.

That's because the neighbors didn't want students parking on those streets, and Maret is following those guidelines.

The rule for students driving is: "There is no parking on Cathedral Avenue between Woodley Road and 29th Street and no parking on Hawthorne Street or Garfield Terrace."

Students should not be parking for the full school day on neighborhood streets - these are 2 hour parking spaces other than for residents- aside from making it impossible to park for people who live in the neighborhood it makes it difficult for maret's visitors as well. Most schools in DC have restrictions against their students taking up street parking for this reason.

Don't all the other schools (NCS, STA, WIS, and Sidwell) have their own off-street parking? I think GDS may not provide any parking, but not sure.

Oh please. I have no dog in this fight, but these are public streets. If you want a solution, DC needs to better enforce its own laws and ticket people.

GDS has a huge garage as well, but as a PP said, these are public streets. For people who can legally park there, then why not? And the fact is, streets like Cortland Place and 28th and 29th Street are parked up ALL.THE.TIME. so who cares?

Impossible is a long stretch. I’ve parked on those streets during school hours (I’m not a student, but had meetings in the neighborhood). There is plenty of parking.

Also, these kids are gone by 4 or 5, just in time to leave spots open for the residents coming home from work.
