Don't text at 8 AM to say Happy Mothers Day

While you can send an email at any time of the day or night, you simply cannot call or text someone late at night or first thing in the morning unless it’s an emergency. Period.

Why can't you send a text to someone late at night or first thing in the morning?

Why are you so lazy about your phone settings? Do you not have friends and family that ever travel? Live in different time zones? Don't work a 9-5, or DO work a 9-5, but are busy during the work day?

You might want to rethink when you text since it sounds like you might be annoying your family, friends, coworkers, etc.

ICYMI: it’s really rude (and weird) to randomly text someone at 8am on a weekend. Period.

And doubling down to defend the bizarre behavior while attempting to shift the blame to the recipient for not silencing their phone underscores cluelessness.

Nope.

If you get annoyed, that’s on you. No one else is responsible for your annoyance or notifications.

Maybe my kids have made me a sap, but I love getting the texts. Can’t women support other women?

I support women by serving as a mentor at work, giving mothers who have been out of the workforce extra review and consideration when I serve on search committees, raising money for the House of Ruth, saying “yes” to favors when asked by other mothers, using Buy Nothing to directly donate really good-quality clothing rather than selling consignment, and fighting for reproductive rights.

I don’t need to send generic texts to support women. That’s not supporting women, that’s pretending you do.

Calm down. Nobody is saying you need to. People are complaining about receiving well wishes.

They’re not well wishes, they are bids for attention, and we all know the difference.

Disagree. It's a personal text. A bid for attention is when someone posts it on their SM instead of personally.

Good grief. You need to Google how to set the DND which you can override so that certain people can always reach you. How awful to have people sending you nice wishes. That's really terrible.

You don't know what people are going through. Not everyone has the luxury of setting DND. Why don't you schedule your text and send it at a decent hour?

There are settings on your phone for that.

I have no patience for people who get bothered about this kind of stuff. People wake up at different times, go to sleep at different times, travel or live in different time zones, and work different hours. Sending texts when it's convenient to the sender is normal. Adjust your settings accordingly. Getting annoyed at others is so needless because there are easy fixes for your annoyance.

Doesn’t matter. Turn your phone off or leave it in another room. My kids are on the east coast. I’m on the west coast. I don’t have my phone in my bedroom because they text at all hours of the day. If you’re annoyed by texts there is a super easy fix.

There’s an easy fix that doesn’t involve leaving your phone in another room LOL

No $hit Sherlock. OP can’t quite figure this out

You’re the one who says you “don’t have my phone in my bedroom” because people text you. So NO SH SHERLOCK, you can fix this without being a Boomer about it!

Sending a scheduled text is the way to go. You can schedule send anytime, and the recipient will recieve it.

This makes no sense. If you have a smart phone, you have the luxury of setting DND. If you may receive emergency calls, you can create those exceptions very easily.

Also, "decent hour" is subjective. People travel, live in different time zones, and work different hours. Perhaps you have the luxury of waking up at 8am on a weekend - many people don't.

DP. Nah, your stance is the weird one. 8:00? What time are you grown-ass adults sleeping in til?

On Mother’s Day? The limit does not exist. The limit does not exist! Mothers have to get up every day to get people ready for school, go to work, take people to sports and dance and tutors and practices and lessons…FFS if a mom can’t sleep in on Mother’s Day without judgment, there is something wrong with society. And by the way, “sleeping in” does not necessarily mean “I am asleep.” It means I am laying in bed, doing as I please, maybe sipping some coffee, and don’t disturb me until you see the whites of my eyes.

We can’t help it if you’re too stupid to figure this out. That’s on you.

I’m trying to envision this make-believe world where parents are asleep at 8am and I’m failing.

Real Moms are fully dressed in the Living room with Make up on at 8am ready to pounce on husband and kids for not getting up and making breakfast and coffee for her.

One of my friends is a pediatric ER nurse practitioner, and she works long shifts with unusual hours, and sleeps late on weekends while her husband takes “first shift” with the kids. You can’t “envision” a world that includes health care workers, firefighters, police officers, factory workers, and other people who don’t have 9-5/M-F jobs? You “can’t envision” a world with truck drivers, plumbers, emergency electricians, and IT people who have to go in at all hours if a server is down? Really? You can’t “envision” that?

I thought it's a pretty standard, affordable, doable present where Mom is allowed to sleep in past 8 AM on Mother's Day?????
