If you live in NOVA and send your kids to private why?

Who do you think posts all those questions about "How Catholic do you have to be to go to a parish school?"

They tell the kids to suck it up and head to public no matter how bad it is.

Lots of people can’t afford those either.

Then they buy/rent in the West Springfield HS pyramid in FCPS (good reputation pyramid, not excessively expensive neighborhoods) and scream their heads off over the proposal for their kids to be rezoned to Lewis.

For real.

Parents need to make more money. Work harder or find a higher paying job.

Great. Given that, I hope you know that your kid will no longer have teachers, you'll no longer have anyone to come collect your trash, there will no longer be lawn service staff or housecleaners for you to hire unless those people are all childless. Because low paying jobs have no value, amiright?

You can be unreasonable if you want. This was actually good advice.

And it’s still north of 1k per month!

Exactly! That’s what I’m saying middle class families have no options!

DP. It barely even qualified as advice. Just a lazy comment.

It's basically this. Whites who can afford private school don't want their kids to be around a lot of black and brown kids in public schools. The few in private? Palatable.

NOVA / DC area is one of the most diverse in the country, however, education-wise, whites want it like somewhere in Indiana.

This isn’t quite true. The rich private school parents want their kids to be around other rich kids. They can be rich kids of any color though. Like world bank kids, embassy kids, black surgeons’ kids etc. It’s not so much a color thing - they don’t want poor kids of any color, including poor white kids. Just my observation as a parent at a very diverse private school.

Eh, I agree there’s rampant classism in private schools but that’s more among the parents. The parents don’t care what class the kids are as long as they are well-behaved and contribute to the reputation of the school and sports championships.

At my kids’ schools among the kids you’re an a$$hat if you brag about wealth or show it off. If you have to lean on your wealth you’re a loser.

BUT God forbid an African American or Asian American child outperform white kids academically or get into a better college. That’s when the race knives come out among both kids and parents.

Because obvi the kids of color only got in because they’re an URM (if you’re Black) or because they had a Tiger Mom pushing them all the way (if they’re Asian American). I can count on one hand how many Latinos there are in the private school population.

Nope, it was good advice. If parents want to raise kids, don't complain about the expenses. Put on your big boy pants and work harder or find a higher paying job. Otherwise, just accept you cannot afford the life you want. This is how life works. Stop asking other people to pay for you.

This is true no one wants to say it is.
