When I went there (90s-early 00s), there were some girls who had friends at other single-sex schools. It was a small group though. Most girls weren't as focused on that type of socialization. There can be interpersonal drama especially when 300 teenage girls live in close quarters, but it looks different from a typical high school. Dating is not the norm at the school which has its pros and cons. |
Don’t worry, It’s not a huge problem there. I have daughter at HC and she’s had friend “drama,” but hell my wife has friend drama. but nothing at HC seems out of the ordinary. It draws from a pretty big area and is geographically and socio economically more “real world” than some of the other all girls schools. But high school girls can be mean to each other…who knew?! |
Congressional and Chevy parents can be problematic. They don’t parent their their children in normal ways but they take every opportunity they can to make sure their kids are the ones throwing the parties. Weird priorities. |

Madeira is different because almost half the students board on campus. This changes the whole culture. There are plenty of local girls as well but because of the location, it doesn't draw has heavily from places like CC which have the most clique-y culture. Also many girls wind up at Madeira because of interest in the equestrian program and the option to board horses at the school, so you get girls from further out who grew up riding. It's its own thing.
This is very different from schools like Holton or HC where there is a community of families and girls regularly see each other outside of school and some may have grown up in the same neighborhoods, attended the same preschools or lower schools (if different) and yes may belong to the same country clubs or have done extra curricular together. And where parents may know each other and have their own cliques. Even if your DD is a day student, Madeira is more of a boarding school experience than the other schools in the area. Day students are even assigned to one of the dorms on campus and will do meals and activities with that dorm. |
DP. Interesting. All of the Madeira alums I know belonged or currently belong to Chevy, Met Club, etc... |

Please be consistent with your comments and acronyms when referring to Academy of the Holy Cross and Connelly School of the Holy Child.
Academy of the Holy Cross - AHC Connelly School of the Holy Child - HC Makes a huge difference when you are commenting. You all are getting it and the readers confused. |
Agree. We only have a handful at NCS thankfully but just having a few in a grade can have a negative effect. They are the usual suspects described above - Chevy and Congressional parents and kids can definitely have a vibe and set a tone. |
| Stone Ridge for sure |

Having now spent a few years in these schools, we have concluded that many in administration are just like (or want to be like) those horrible parents. Like attract like. Stay away. |

Like a PP said already, it’s the grades with high concentrations of country club/cotillion girls that have mean girls/mean moms. I’m sure it’s the case anywhere as some of these girls came from the same K-8’s |
Which schools do your kids attend? Helpful info for OP. |
