How long till the economy collapses?

Trumpers will be so surprised when their taxes go up

while also going through more bankruptcies than any other major business in America.

But we knew thus before idiotic MAGAS elected him because he is such a stellar businessman.

Except we’re going to skip right to the crisis. The deck has been stacked. Any card we pick will be bad. To put a fine point on it, the former Republican majority leader of the Senate just voted against the Republican nominee for Director of National Intelligence saying she had shown “extraordinarily bad judgement.” And he was the only Republican to cast a vote against her. There is extraordinarily bad judgement on display everywhere. We’re in a race to the bottom and we’re going to get there very soon.

I give this six months until a major crisis, economic and / or otherwise.

You are generous. Multiple crises starting in a month

It's collapsing right now. There is now "how long." You are experiencing it live, my dude.

Collapse. War. Revival. Just have to survive.

Locally (not DMV) I know of several businesses that are already closing. People are scared of losing their job so they are not out spending money.

I don't want it to happen, but I think it is happening.

if that's the case, I say let's get it started so we can get it over with.

Time to stop playing politics and get down to the business of acting (spending & budgeting) like a responsible country. The world's problems are not our responsibility to solve.

Pro Tip: If you don't like the price of eggs, then don't buy eggs.

How much did deficit spending go down while the Republicans had total control of everything from 2017 to 2019? How much did they reduce the debt then?

Crickets. You'll never get an answer about this because it turns out it was never about the deficit, just like it isn't about the sanctity of the constitution. I never want to hear one word from a republican ever again about the debt or the rule of law.

+1. I switched from independent to democrat after J6 when I realized there were no republicans left to vote for and there are so few independents who run… 40% of the democratic platform is not really my jam, but the way that the republican party has embraced Trump and his lawlessness is something I can’t get behind and then all this preaching about the sanctity of life and America first only to take billions away from programs that help poor children and the disabled and add trillions to our national debt. It’s all so pathological. Let’s normalize sanity.

Totally agree. I wash Biden had served as the moderate he ran as rather than a feeble old man who largely let his progressive staff run things. The backlash to that is a main reason Trump got reelected.

Please tell me what kind of regulations you mean. Keeping our water and air clean? Keeping chemicals out of our food? I though MAHA was all about that?

MAHA is about woo-woo new age stuff gaining ascendany in the culture. It's bad effects will work in tandem with an economic crisis to put us back in the 19th century. Public health is out the window.

I hate Trump with a burning passion but most of what he is doing will impact a small percentage of the national workforce.

The tariffs are the biggest fear on wall street given their impacts to rates but it appears these will be a nothing burger. He is all talk and just wants splashy headlines. Don't let him win by living in daily fear. Life will go on. 2 more years until mid terms.

It's already started. Many of us are buying as little as possible. No more restaurants, no more takeout coffee, no more clothes shopping.

As more and more fed lose their jobs, as more federal grants are cut for poor people, there will be less demand for businesses and more demand for food pantries.

I don't think that's true. Consumers are feeling pessimistic, things feel unstable and couple this with rising egg prices and a likely government shutdown, people will put off big spending which will slow down the economy very quickly, FAFO.

egg prices will not crash an economy..

The following are likely to have snowballing consequences, regardless of how many feds lose jobs:
(1) undermining of US dollar, such that other countries invest elsewhere and look for another default currency. Too much talk from this admin about defaulting on debt, deregulating FDIC, making the Fed Reserve no longer independent, and even switching to US Treasury to crypto.
(2) loss of markets abroad: boycotts will only grow with US threatening to annex Canada and selling out Ukraine.
(3) loss of jobs/spending due to grant cuts to states. Massive loss of jobs in education and research sectors. Those that depend on and benefit from Medicaid (including nurses and nursing homes) also gonna lose big time.
I don’t think everything will keep chugging along smoothly and only feds suffering job loss. The cuts are much deeper/wider than that.
