Score:
Prep 12 - Gilman 7. GP better than people thought
Landon 9 - MSJ 8. Landon trying to figure it out
Severn 13 - STA 6. Not as competitive as STA hoped
STM 7 - PVI 8 Good win for PVI to start
St Pauls 16 - SJC 15 0-2 not the start the Cadets wanted
BL 9 - GZ 8 Moral victories aren't how GZ rolls

Saturday, March 8 Schedule
Sts Peter & Paul (0-1) at Our Lady of Good Counsel (1-0)
St Christopher's - VA - (0-0) at Bullis (3-0)

Based on my observation, GP is flying under the radar this year and will compete for an IAC championship and DC area bragging rights. Hoyas are balanced.

Landon needs to figure out its offensive woes. Bears are always well coached and I suspect they will have it figured out by league-play come April.

STA must be down as I don't think Severn is particularly strong this year, the Admirals are a very young squad with a new coaching staff. A bit surprised by the performance.

SJC is younger than people are giving them credit for. Speaks is playing an insane non-league schedule to open up the season. Gilman on the road is a must-win for the Cadets.

GZ is always athletic and plays hard. I wouldn't ever rule them out despite not having the high profile recruits on their roster this year. Losing to BL in Overtime on the road and dealing with Baltimore homer refs is nothing to hang your head on.

Bullis has the talent to compete with anyone. Bellistri is playing a softer schedule this year, despite having a loaded roster, it will be interesting to see how it pays off once league play begins.

Neutrals Rankings:

1. Prep
2. Bullis
3. GZ
4. Landon
5. SJC

I have said several times on this thread, the margin of talent between these 5 teams above is rather thin right now. Anyone one of these teams could beat one another. Will be very interesting to see which program improves over the course of the season. Championships are won in May, not in March.

SJC issues has nothing to do with being young. This is a coaching issue. They were up 5 vs BL and 6 vs St Paul's. This team cannot score and close games out like teams with a winning culture.

#44?

Can you not? That is a child. One million things happened that affected the score. before and after whatever penalty you’re talking about.

Stop with the think of the children BS. These are mature boys playing public games available for anyone to watch. If one chooses to play in this environment then they should be ready to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Thank you for your balanced insightful analysis, without taking cheap shots at programs. Keep it up! Great game in an area that loves its lacrosse!

Next season looks to be good for GP; younger players getting critical playing time this season

Why next season? They are winning and have just as many college commits as any other program. GP reloads and never rebuilds.

People gotta stop with the next year talk. The season is 2 games young. And what happens this year affects the trajectory for next year, anyways - kids wanting to go or not go to a program

Sure helps when the administration takes mid year transfers post Christmas break and recruits from across the country.

Take away Preps boarding component, and they would stink this year.

And still afraid to play St John’s

It's not like it was added in the last 10 years. GP has been a boarding school for its entirety of existence.

Speaks is a talented coach but doesn’t appear to dedicate as much time to recruiting as he did in past, which is a tell. His 2028 class is tiny and they barely have enough players to field a JV team now. He’s acting like a coach thats planning on making a move to a new program or bumping up to an Asst role with an elite college program.

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of lacrosse kids choosing the WCAC in the next 3 years.

I wouldn't say exceptional. Bullis placed a lot of shots right to his stick. Most importantly, DM goalie couldn't make some throws on his clears and never looks to start transition.

Was DeMatha missing any important players? They had a shot at Bullis without their 2 best. They're going to need a lot more to break through this year in the WCAC.

DeMatha had all their players/starters. They do need to clean things up as the offense was throwing balls away and not catching passes. The defense played well but still need to work on some technique, edging picks which led to the OT goal. Also, DeMatha normally plays two senior goalies as they split halves like last season. Not sure why they didn't play the other goalie in the second half as he is better on clears and always looks for transition. DeMatha needs more depth, and the offense needs to clean things up. Their best attackman on offense, PSU commit Matthew Beachley was pretty much neutralized last night by the Bullis poles. The real difference in this DeMatha team is the FOGO Dylan Kivett. It is the first time in 4 years that they have a real FOGO. I think the Stags will surprise some teams this year. However, I think Gonzaga has their number, as they live rent free in the DeMatha heads.

This must be the backup goalie posting. If you can’t make the save, you don’t have the ball to clear it. The starter played his but off. You don’t pull someone playing like that, even if they were underperforming on clears. This is high school, not rec ball. Not everyone plays and there are no orange slices.

You are a moron. Why would a teammate talk bad about his team? Sounds like the poster was a person who has followed DeMatha lacrosse for a long time. For some what it’s worth, DeMatha has two starting goalies which they used last season too. The goalie did steal some saves but also should have made some stops too. The goalie did look good in the second period. I think the DeMatha FOGO will be the big difference maker for DeMatha this year. Hope he stays healthy this year.
