What exactly is an LBGTQ book?

One that casually mentions teacher Ms. Smith has a wife? Fine whatever.

One that teaches 7 years they can choose to be a boy or girl or neither? No way I am keeping my kid in that school.

Agree. My young elementary child was read Being You: A first conversation about gender by the teacher, to the whole class- with no mention of it to the parents. It basically tells children they can pick their gender, be both, or neither or chance anytime, and then goes into talking about patriarchy. WTF. Seriously, this is totally inappropriate

I am a Democrat and agree I would not want my kid being taught that you can change your gender in school at any age since kids are impressionable and teens especially are trying to figure out who they are and normally try on many different "identities." I believe in kindness and respect and do not want any person discriminated against or bullied so I do think it is ok to teach kindness and respect but not this.

The whole asking for your pronoun thing has to go as well since again it is placing ideas in kid's heads. Now if someone tells me they are specific pronouns of course I will try to honor them but don't bash me if I accidentally call them what they appear as. In regards to bathrooms I am not worried unless someone who looks like a burly man tries to use the ladies restroom. Locker rooms should always have private dressing and shower stalls since locker rooms historically have been areas were kids were bullied. Trans people should not be on competitive sports teams of the opposite sex. And again I believe in kindness but also fairness. And we need to knock it off by saying "assigned at birth" or "cis-gender" or "pregnant people" and other similar stuff. This is not going to win folks over to Democratic side. Teach kindness instead.

I also worry that transgender medicine is misguided as a health care professional since no one can change their gender. They can only offer cosmetic surgery and hormones which can cause severe side effects and be damaging to sexual health. I worry that many of these kids will end up changing their minds and have permanent unwanted changes to their bodies. I think a better option would be to assist these people to be happy with the body they have and allow self expression within reason (we cannot have people going around naked for example). This is not the same as praying away the gay but is being realistic that we cannot change our sex and trying to do no harm which I think transgender medicine does.

In the 1980's we had Prince who expressed his feminine side and masculine side very well and we loved it. Men and women should be able to butch or feminine or both.
If I didn't know better, I'd think I wrote this myself. It is exactly what I believe. Yet, the lunatic far left probably think we're MAGA.

Liberals are sick. They are pushing transgender indoctrination onto elementary school children. My guess is that the sex change surgeries and medications must be a lucrative business. So, they are launching the campaign to turn children trans when they are young and impressionable. Gender is biological! It is impossible to change your gender, just like it’s impossible to change your race. Transgender ideology is sick. I’m sick of mentally ill men trying to force their way into our spaces.

I am a moderate liberal Democrat and I believe most Democrats fall into my camp. It is not helpful to call liberals sick when I think it is only a small percentage on folks on the left who agree with teaching kids this. I do not agree it is a good idea. Instead I believe in teaching kindness and respect and no bullying. I think some folks are thinking trans is in the same category as gay and do not want to be prejudiced when trans is not the same. I think transgender medicine is misguided and is harming people. I believe instead in allowing men to express their feminine side or women to express their butch side as we did with no problem in 1980s.
Also a Dem and I agree. However, normal Dems like us have allowed the lunatic left and outsized voice in our party. It's why we lost in November. It's why unions have turned their backs on us. We turned our back on them when we spent our political capital pretending we didn't know what woman is instead of on protections for workers. And the right blasts is for that. We need to clean house of the woke left and win American's trust back.

If it’s just a small percentage of liberals, many seem to be infiltrating school boards in order to change the curriculum in order to push their ideology on young children. They refuse to allow dissent, and label any parent who objects to this sort of curriculum all sorts of names. I honestly believe this DEI and transgender ideology is like a religion to many liberals, many of whom are atheists. They act as if this sort of teaching is sacred and castigate anyone who disagrees.

It’s a form of secular religion. Faith based, non verifiable.

With it's own symbols and holidays.

Shows that a need for a faith is innate.

Yes! I’m the PP whose child was read the above book and I agree with everything you said. But the problem is…at least at our school/district, speaking out at all is shot down with calling people bigots, racists, and are silenced. A parent that spoke out about this book, when later applied to join the school board, was denied because of “different values”

Yes, it's very difficult to speak up against progressive priorities like trans indoctrication in elementary school. It's a quick way to be ostracized in more liberal communities. I think it's a big reason why more and more liberal parents are quietly voting for Republicans. There's no room for dissent or conversation in progressive school districts.

I think there is more room for dissent in Democratic circles than Republican circles. Look at Trump cancelling anyone who disagrees with him and he has a hit list for anyone who crosses him. And Republicans have a long history of canceling folks. Remember the Dixie Chicks and other who were cancelled for speaking out? OTOH I think Democrats will step up to the plate and allow a big tent on this but it may take some time since some are confusing being again trans ideology with being against gay people. I still think they are a minority of Democrats.

Flat out disagree. It was the left that knocked Trump off twitter, canceled people for non PC beliefs, had a government that suppressed posts on Facebook and instagram, employed biased “fact checkers” to silence voices, went after their political opponents with lawfare (hush money trial the perfect example).

I disagree. The modern left is fascist and intolerant. They claim to support diversity, yet disdain any diversity of viewpoints. They demand 100% conformity with their ideology. The left has a long history of cancelling people for disagreeing with their political views.

You are describing Trump and Maga except for supporting diversity of ideas. Yes there are some intolerant folks on the left but I think they are the extreme minority.

I don’t understand where kids are “getting indoctrinated”? My kids attend DCPS and are in high school. I’m don’t see any indoctrination.

Additionally, I grew up in the 80s with a ton of Mormons who were/are openly hostile to gay people. From my graduating class, I know of 4 gay men and 1 person who is transgender. If there was indoctrination in public schools, these folks would not exist. They were not indoctrinated but they were persecuted.

MAGA just wants to persecute people! Just be honest. You want these other groups not to exist.

Neither side is innocent but the left is worse in both censorship and intolerance, by a long shot.

Read Maryland’s instruction guidelines for this program. Perfect example of indoctrination and why SCOTUS will implement the opt out.

Enough with the “we just want to exist” blather. Everyone knows gay people exist and an opt out policy is not banning books. Such tired and easily falsified arguments.

Gen Z now reports and insane rate of LGBTQ compared to other generations. It's clear they're brainwashing kids and are confusing them due to indoctrination at such a young age. It is mass hysteria and a trendy fad to be an alphabet soup for your sexual identity. Why should schools be forced to teach this indoctrination? Parents can choose to let their kids have reading hour with Village People at home or outside school.

Conservatives think everyone online represents liberals. They are a far fringe. Most average liberals aren’t living online. In fact, I would argue most average people don’t spend time online arguing politics!

Opting out isn’t persecution. Good Lord.

NP. I agree they are the minority but they have bullied normal Dems into silence. See "I can't define "woman" because I'm not a biologist." That was insane.

I’m not gay. I’m your average GenX mom of teenagers. I do think MAGA wants to erase people who don’t fit their ideal. White, Christian, heterosexual, Trump-loving, working to middle class or billionaire. You refuse to acknowledge there are other people in this world who want to read about their history/experience in literature. MAGA cannot handle a reality different than their own.
