Nope, not doing it. Come for me Clarence! -mcps teacher |
You know what my kids conversations are on this very issue, they don't care that you're gay, they don't care who you kiss, they don't want to talk about it because they don't want to talk about sex stuff. It's really that simple for kids, you just don't get it. Why are we overcomplicating kids, if they don't want to be part of it I'm sure they have genuine feelings why that is, and their feelings matter just as much as the LGBT kids' feelings matter. |
Things parents can opt their kids out of: Sex Ed Field Trips Required Vaccinations (and I’m not talking about COVID) Dissections Attendance on religious holidays Class parties Saying the Pledge of Allegiance Watching R-rated movies for instructional purposes MAP tests It seems to me that we allow parents to opt their children out of a great many things. Why is this the exception where parents rights become irrelevant? |
Here’s the thing, no one is talking to a. Kindergarten about sex. They may read “and tango makes three” which is a lovely book based on a true story that provides representation that families aren’t all the traditional nuclear family of a mom, dad, and two kids. Once you start banning curriculum of any sort everything becomes objectionable. Why is it ok to teach a book that has a mom and a dad but not one that has two moms? Parents can already opt out of sex Ed. Leave it there. |
(Adding — I personally think inclusive and comprehensive ed should be mandatory too…. It’s the best way to make sure kids are equipped to prevent STIs and pregnancy. But that’s a whole different topic) |
And my kid doesn’t want to know anybody kisses or has sex so stop with 2 married couple, stop with Mary and Joseph 🤢 🤮 they have sec and have kids 😮 |
Because these opt-outs don’t require a replacement. Having a second curriculum is a different animal. |
This is not about teaching anything. It’s about whether books used in the classroom can even include pictures or mention of same sex couples.
You cannot demand that everyone else pretend that certain people do not exist. That is dehumanizing. |
What about opting out of books with interracial couples? |
That is not true. They do require replacements when curriculum related. |
If it’s against someone’s religious beliefs then of course. |
I’m Pastafarian. I believe that we have to teach that gravity is caused by a giant Flying Spaghetti Monster. Can I opt my kid out of all science classes that say otherwise? |
Here you go. One of the books in the curriculum, Born Ready. |
Now that the Supreme Court has granted - they will have a new legal team of some of the best. With the new Admin, they will also have the support of the United States. |
Of course parents should be able to opt out. Maryland is attempting to teach their version of a religion that isn’t shared by all. Keep to science, civics, math and reading all of which public schools are struggling to teach these days and leave morality lessons to the household. |
