What will be the next demographic shakeup in electoral politics?

my 13 yo told me last year ago that "pronouns are gone" and that kids are not woke. they use racial stereotypes freely. boys in particular, but also some girls.

I don’t hear much about the racial stereotypes, but I live in a very diverse area so it would probably be less common. Agreed that pronouns are not popular with this age any more.

PP here - we are at a very diverse school. boys are extremely straightforward with all sorts of stereotypes (racial, ethnic, gender). wokeness is associated with schoolmarms, teachers and other lame adults. not cool.

I have a hard time believing the stereotyping part is true. Do you hear the boys saying this? I don’t think my 12 year old would dare to in my presence. That seems different to me from being fed up with DEI/SEL/woke-speak.

That said I do hope we’re past the brutal cancellations that happened in 2020. Like the Walls kids who got in trouble for playing Cotton Eyed Joe or the teacher with the cotton ball game.

You are aware that Andrew Tate is Jesus to these kids right?

It’s now socially acceptable for boys of any race to use the n word.

I am the PP who said kids were not woke, and at my kids school, which is very diverse, the n word is not acceptable. But it's about the last barrier standing.

I don't think they are using it in front of their parents. This is what my kid is reporting to me re: how kids talk among themselves. I would assume most parents are not aware of this. We live in a very liberal, diverse area. There is a fair number of international students. My guess is that these kids will grow to be more "conservative" than their parents on many issues.

Curious what you mean by liberal and diverse. at my kid’s T1 MS he’d get his butt kicked if he used the n word.
Anonymous
Yeah, Gen Z and Alpha are definitely more conservative and have little patience with top-down, school-administrator-ordered wokeness (eg the current Democratic Party), but the n-word is absolutely off limits still. I’m around a ton of Gen Z kids and they are not using amongst themselves except maybe if they are singing or performing.

Or you are not in touch with what kids are thinking. A lot of kids, especially boys, don't talk to their moms about what Peter and Connor said during lunch.

Andrew Tate is a biracial kid from a council estate in Luton England. He doesn’t appeal to mostly rich kids, his main appeal is to kids from rough upbringings.

I think you have this backwards. The pressure for the next four years is not on Trump.

Everyone already spent four years with Trump. They reelected him because they are more comfortable with that than they are with what Democrats have to offer.

The pressure for the next four years is on Democrats to present an alternative to Trump that people can get behind. So far, the only thing that the Democrats are doing is replacing their octogenarians in leadership with the unreformed progressives that helped to drive them into this ditch. I don’t think they are heading in the right direction.

Can you clarify what “unreformed progressives” you think are currently leading the Democratic Party? There was nothing progressive about either Harris or Walz. The idea that MAGA *isnt* extremist is laughable.

Jamie Raskin is one of these unreformed progressives and giving him a leadership position will absolutely ensure that the party is doomed. His district isn’t representative of America and neither are his politics. Hr doesn’t even know or understand why the party is in the situation it’s in. He’s looking to reboot the 2017 “Resistance” but the problem is that the American people have decided that they want to move on.

Raskin is so over-the-top that he is caricature of a liberal. In congressional hearings, he is nasty and pissy with everyone who does not bow to his munificence. He is a tool.

Newsom 🤮

If the Dem elites choose Newsom, then they deserve to lose for the next several decades.

lol this is how I feel.

Does anyone think that the Dems are crippled by Obama’s popularity? They believe there is some formula to create an Obama. When really he was a phenomenon of his moment.

Obama is also less popular now than he was eight years ago. He just doesnt realize it. The party definitely needs to go away from all things Obama. The country wants to move on. All the O's complain about is how bad the country is and how racist everyone is as if Obama did not handily beat two white men before 11pm during a great recession which really was a depression. The DNC needs to dump Obama like old news, just like they did with Hillary.

It says something about the DNC's failures if sixteen years later, the biggest draw to a presidential rally is still Obama. Why didnt Clinton, Biden, or Kamala have the juice or the ability to speak frankly with reporters and during interviews without having to take three days off to prepare for a 10 minute TV interview?

Agree. The "names" in the Democratic Party - from Newsom to Shapiro to Whitmer to Beshear - are not happening nationally. Democrats are such an awful brand they need a complete reboot. Like Obama when he was a mere state senator in Illinois. If the DNC would actually allow it, Democrats really, really need an open primary that is welcoming to candidates coming out out of left field and have the skills and charisma to compete. Democrats seem to insist on anointing their establishment next in line politicians - from Clinton to Biden to Harris, and clearing the field to make it happen.

And that's not going to work anymore. The DNC and the donor class have been a disaster for Democrats. And Democrats have been crippled by local government progressives that are repelling everyone.

I saw an interview a few weeks ago on CNN with a new Congresswomen from Washington State that flipped a red seat blue. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. Such a down to earth, decent, common sense, cares about people person. I thought, yes, more of this please. Authentic. Involved in the issues of her community. Wants to make life better for people in her corner of the world - and that includes loggers and other boogeymen for progressives. I'm sure she's not running for president, but that is exactly what Democrats need. Not fricking Gavin Newsom or any other slick-haired billionaire-supported lifetime politician.

The Dems also need to dump Big Tech. Most Americans believe big tech has too much power and censors political beliefs they uphold.

When Trump was elected in 2016, one central pillar of the Democratic resistance involved using big tech platforms as a counterweight. This was the context in which the “misinformation and disinformation” framework was born. Given most Americans receive and send news online via social media, the banning or perceived bias toward one's political beliefs can cause a greater impulse to actively head out to the polls so they can make their voices heard. This is also why Democrats lose.

I wonder if they’ve paralyzed themselves with cancel culture. You have to prepare 3 days to make sure you don’t say the wrong thing that will end up on TikTok Tok.

Agree that it’s weird that the Democratic establishment cannot find someone naturally talented like Obama again. Obama wasn’t even the best speaker (he sounds nerdy) but there’s nothing offputting about him and he exudes confidence and capability.
