How does the average American eat a fresh baguette from a bakery?

Isn’t all butter hard until it’s been sitting out of the fridge for a while?

Sigh. I know you think this post makes you sound amazing, but you just sound like a prat.

Well, I am from Serbia, and while the bread there is tasty, there are certainly equally good breads here.

i made this yesterday and it was delicious. Sometimes i just do brie, fig jam, arugula and roasted turkey. Sometimes we just eat it with butter or olive oil.

I always picture Americans eating spaghetti and having bread with butter on the side along with iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots for salad. Wishbone Italian dressing.

Or they eat it with steak dinner.

I ordered a fresh baguette simple sandwich at a local bakery because of this thread. On what planet is such an impossible to eat and crunchy bread enjoyable? It cut my freaking mouth, the corners of my lips were bleeding from the bloody thing.

This afternoon I bought a demi baguette at Whole Foods for lunch, along with some garden veggie cream cheese. Ate it at work for lunch, pulling pieces off the baguette and spreading them with the cream cheese. Bread and cheese is an ancient and fundamental meal.

Grocery store bread -- the stuff in the bread aisle full of preservatives -- is disgusting. I literally won't eat it.

Why would you think we are any different from Europeans? I buy a baguette, we eat it that day or else it gets hard.
