If course they do. The Maga cult is a stain for them. If they can get rid of him this year then they can focus on 2028 and returning the party to normalcy. They want to be able to run in 8 years of Democratic failures. They can't do any of that if he gets back in.

How is a "return to normalcy" going to work when the MAGA's won't support anyone other than Trump? It is a non-viable national party otherwise without significant changes in the platform, or you know, actually having a platform.

The GOP needs Trump permanently out of the political picture so that they have a chance to start repairing his damage and reclaiming these voters. Aside, there is no cult leader-in-waiting to take over. It'll take time.

His numbers are better than Kamala's state by state.

This! The guy is a loser by all measures yet half of the country will still vote for him, a significant portion of them even idolize him. Says a lot about our country that it’s this close to begin with.

+1 I'm glad there's more excitement now on the Dem side but it makes me so sad that after everything still nearly half of voters says yeah we want more Trump. Seriously???? I used to disagree with Republicans but could at least understand where they were coming from. Now, I just can't at all.

A lot of them aren’t really saying we want more Trump, they just want less progressive policy. I recently watched an interview with a Harris about equity and it honestly sounded quite socialist. Not a huge fan of that.

Posts like this are a handy reminder that the average American voter wouldn't know "Socialism" if it walked up and bit them on the ass.

Fox news has shockingly rebranded Dems as Socialist and threatened that the U.S. will turn into Venezuela. I hear it from my 87 yr old parents all the damn time. I know it is Fox because my parents never even heard of Venezuelan anything until Fox started this crap.

So really, that's just the counterpoint to LWNJs labeling Republicans as "fascists" and a Trump win as "the end of democracy." Not sure why you're so shocked - we've been hearing this nonsense from the left since 2016.

1. The coup attempt 2. Which came after two months of Trump trying to overturn the election 3. “I’ll be a dictator on day one.” 4. “You’ll never need to vote again.” 5. Project 2025.

Project 2025? Which is not part of Trumps platform? Okay

He doesn’t know what Project 2025 is, but almost everyone involved in his administration is involved in it, but he wishes them well, but he still doesn’t know what it is but it sounds great!

God some of you are such rubes.

Maga died with Trump. The RNC wants Trump to crash and burn . They can then go back to the old familiars Bush, Romey, Kasich types.

But Trump really wont hold much meaning in 2028 , he wouldn't have been president for nearly a decade at that point.

Republicans had their chance to abandon Trump after January 6, and they chose to stay with him, so I'm doubtful they will ever turn on him.

I suppose it's possible that he no longer knows what it is because his brain has become so addled. It's tough to tell because virtually everything out of his mouth is a lie. But we do know that his people drafted it, and they'll use him as a useful idiot to enact it.

Trump literally instigated a violent coup attempt in 2021. He lies that the election was stolen from him. He stated he would be a dictator on day one. He prioritizes revenge on his political enemies. He tells religious groups they won't need to vote anymore because he would fix the system.

If Trump isn't a threat to democracy, he really isn't helping himself by acting exactly like a threat to democracy.

No, he just praised it last year. His VP wrote the forward to the leader of Project 2025's book and most of the Heritage Foundation and members of Project 2025 were senior administration officials in his last administration and are involved in the current campaign. He is running from it not because he doesn't support it but because it's threatening his election chances.

That is exactly where the Trump team was two weeks ago.

Cocky on overconfident turns people off. Excited and part of a movement that needs to work hard to achieve its goal is exciting to be part of.

I am excited and optimistic and love everything that has happened in the last two weeks. I was not convened Kamala would be the right pick but she earned it. She started earning it in the days after the debate debacle where she demonstrated what an able surrogate she was for the Biden campaign. She earned it with her pitch perfect and strategic steps after he stepped down.

She has been continuing to earn it.

I am all in and excited about the momentum. She is still the underdog, we need to act like it and work hard. That is the best way to ensure DJT keeps helping us with his meltdown.

This. And quite frankly the numbers are still to close for the cockiness and it's still too early.

Harris has said, repeatedly, "We're the underdog", which is correct. But she's got momentum and has generated a lot of new enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, Trump is the same-old lying, excuse-making, bullshitter he's always been. And now he's a chickenshit about debating her. So manly

It will be very close, but Harris can win.

I’m confident Harris will win. That doesn’t mean I’m wishing. It means I’m working.

We can be both confident and be working our tails off to make her madam President.

They had their chance with two impeachments and 3 primaries and failed each time.

Which voters do they need to reclaim?

Who, that has been ejected from the current party - the Liz Cheney's of the world, are going to come back and be in the same party with Tuberville, MTG and Boebert?

What is the policy going to be? The US has a 70%+ consensus on Roe, sensible gun rules, supporting social security and medicare, staying in our global alliances - all things that are mainstream Democratic party platform tenets.

What are the big issues that the GOP can support that will draw people back?

Immigration? The dems wanted the bi-partisan bill, the GOP did not.
Women's health? The dems support Roe, the GOP does not.
IVF/Contraception? The GOP does not support these and want to ban them and criminalize abortion.
Sensible gun control? The GOP supports no rules, the dems support some rules.
NATO/Foriegn policy? The GOP supports isolationish, the Dems support global alliances and global markets and community.
Law and Order? The GOP supports Trump and it seems like everyone in the elected GOP side has some criminal ot ethical skeleton.
Family Values? GOP Supports Trump
Peace Through Strength abroad? The GOP are isolationists.
Voting Rights? The GOP only want straight white males to vote and actively suppress anyone else.

So, what is the party that the GOP will re-constitute coming back? How will it be different than what has evolved under Trump?
