Both polarizing figures.

No.

Buttigieg
Pro: great speaker and debater. Intelligent, practical, knowledgeable on domestic policies.
Con: white male with no particular support from Black and Hispanic communities.

Whitmer
Pro: woman, experience leading a State
Con: white woman, same as above

I can see a Kamala Harris / Gretchen Whitmer ticket.

The Gavin is too Californian, bless him.

Who cares if they are white. We need to win. Identity politics is clearly not working for us

Identity politics works every time sadly. Biden was not playing identity politics in his reelection campaign. He was trying to tout his record. People haven't heard him. The record is always boring, even if it's good.

So now we need a drastic change and fight fire with fire. Kamala would do a great job attacking Trump. She's a former prosecutor. This is what people want to see. Someone coherently saying out loud from a media-blitzed pulpit how Trump is incoherent and rambling. Obviously it needs to be said by someone who isn't worse than Trump at the rambling!

Harris would be a no-brainer obvious better choice than Trump or Biden. This isn't rocket science. Her gender or race is irrelevant. Look for a fit and qualified in a candidate to support. The color of their skin and what's between their legs shouldn't be considerations in the 21st century. Get over it.

Kamala Harris was the dead last candidate in the democratic primaries in 2020 for a reason. She slept her way to the top in California where no one seriously challenged her due to her identity background. Her record as VP is abysmal to laughable. Her polling is so far below Biden's own polls that it makes you pause. People are not stupid. They know exactly who she is.

He is 73 yo. It's obvious you are not around GenZ on a daily basis.

I am honestly shocked how many older GenX and young Boomers have their head in the sand. The old-line Dems are sinking the ship and the captain has no idea.

I will confess I find the idea of a second American Camelot (which this would be) positively thrilling. though I do believe it would appear to generation z, as well.

You think Schumer would be a second Camelot???? Please tell me no. Kennedy was 43 and had a glamorous wife and lifestyle.

Who is "she"? I'd be a lot more comfortable with Harris representing the US in a G7 Summit in 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028... than Trump or Biden. Just think about either of those clowns representing us as our leader in 2028. You don't have to be an elderly man to be the best option for POTUS. Get over it.

Are you kidding? America is not electing a gay man or a woman, now matter how much I would personally love that.

Honestly, I don't think a gay man would win running as a Democrat. I think it is actually possible for a gay man to win as a Republican though. Republicans don't really care as long as they are part of their team. Religious conservatives overwhelmingly vote for Trump despite the has been divorced and cheated on his multiple times. I think it's more likely that the first gay president and woman president are Republican.

NYT Editorical Board calls for Biden to step down:

We need WaPo now, as well as major TV networks and CEOs.
Build a momentum, otherwise it's another 4 years of Trump chaos.

Except that it DOES matter to those of us who live in the real world.

Yes, she's great. And no, she didn't sleep her way to the top. Proof you don't know her at all, PP

I agree with PP that for obvious reasons (not white, female) she's severely underestimated.

This is our chance to rectify that and put her in the spotlight. She's a strong debater and she won't disappoint.

Picking candidates to rectify injustices is not a smart strategy if you want to win. It doesn't matter why people don't like her. The fact is that she won't be able to win over voters in swing states. This is practical consideration that must be accounted for if you want to win.

Anonymous wrote:"This deserves its own thread." No it doesn't. Pointless thread as its too late to change the ballot in many states.

Not at all. Only Ohio is problematic because of its early ballot law - first week of August.

Historically, the US has had open Conventions.

Biden can transfer his funds to a super PAC to the benefit of the new nominee.

It CAN be done. And it should be done.

What in his career suggests he would transfer his funds to anything other than family?
He will play ball if he gets a big payday.

Changing the Democratic ticket is legal but we’ll have to hurry before the convention.

Which Democratic President & VP combo would have the best chance of winning the election?

You have to make it thru step one. You know what that is? You have to make it thru Jill Biden. He isn't going anywhere unless she gives the thumbs up for them to walk into the sunset.

Chuck Schumer is married to Iris Weinshall, the COO for the New York Public Library. They are 100% a power couple. I'm sorry if they're not young and fit enough for you, but for the rest of us here in the real world, they're positively invigorating. And if people think he's too "old," well, Hakeem Jeffries would be on the ticket, as well.
